First, I'd like to outline my situation with some real-life friends who also play. The first of which is;
FluffyBinLaden: Well, that's me. Obviously. My name's Josiah, and I play Zerg. If you read this blog, you'll find out about me better than I could ever describe myself.
Rudolph: He's my main man. My best friend. I've known him the longest out of all my bestest buddies, and we've been through thick and thin. Although not that great of a player either (Then again, none of us are, at all. Period.), he has the heart to keep going and continue to play through bouts of mass losing. A lot of people could learn from his determination, including me. He plays Zerg mostly, but has seriously been considering switching to Protoss, due to his inability to cope with the FFFE.
GenesisCrimsonHeart: (More commonly known as just Genesis, or GenesisCrimson) I've known him almost as long as Rudolph, and he is just as good a friend. Always keeping the conversation lighthearted, and having an amazing sense of humor, he's our go-to guy for reassurance and help. He hasn't played in awhile due to his recent acquirement of a girlfriend (Damn Him! ) and the fact that he just moved to a city that is, thankfully, not very far away. He used to play Protoss, but as recently started to lean toward the Terran side.
Joraiem: The muscle of the group. He's the big guy, the football player. He is a good humored, clever person who has a very aggressive approach to gaming. Although prone to rage-quiting at a cheesy strategy, or at blatant outplaying, and fighting with Rudolph, he's a good man to have around. He is also the only one, currently, in the group to be able to play SC2. He plays Protoss, Protoss, Protoss. I don't think he's ever wanted to play anything else, or ever will.
TheInsomic: The newest addition to our quintet and the only Korean! Although he rarely plays Starcraft anymore (He switched over to Minecraft, and hasn't come back yet), he is probably the most solid player out of us all. He's a smart, and well-mannered individual. He's very soft-spoken, but profound when he decides to chip in his 2-cents. He plays Terran, when he does play, and favors strong mech and air play.
As a group we call ourselves Valorous Demise, hence the blog title. A clever name, that defines our gamestate perfectly.We will certainly lose, but not without a fight.
Now for some actual game-talk. Going to talk about some immediate goals, the ways that I practice, what I need to improve on, and how I hope to do it.
Goals:
Ok, now, I suck at my control groups. That's number 1. I need to learn to use my control groups correctly, so macroing doesn't take a full click on the minimap and corresponding clicks on buildings.
Once that's set, macroing. Get the whole batch of larva building while I'm fighting, not when I come back. That's important.
Once my macro is in place, devote all my time to my strategy.
Note: I'll be doing these all at once, but they are listed in order of priority.
Practice:
Although laddering makes great practice, I don't quite want to ruin my W:L ratio just yet. So I'm going to continue to play Obs matches with my friends, and one on ones with them, so we can work on things in a less competitive, rushed setting. I have refined my ZvP build quite bit in this way already.
Improving:
My macro is poor, I need to learn times to drone, and times to make units. I need to learn how to analyze a replay, and subsequently my own playstyle. I want to learn the best way to practice alone, and with people. I need to learn how to learn timings, and therefore how to refine my play. I have no idea how I shall go about most of these things, but it's good to get them out there in a list, to recognize them for what they are.
I'd like to point out that the reason I'm writing this is to get my thoughts out, hopefully get some feedback from the community on things I'm doing wrong, or doing right, and possibly entertain some of you with stories of my noobiness. It is my hope that someday, when I am the most famous SC player in the world (Yah right, but it's good to have goals, XD), beginners like me can learn from my mistakes, and progress through the ranks faster than I did.
I'd like to throw out a HUGE thanks to spell-check. I never could have done this without you.
