Hey all,

So my friends got together and decided to buy me SC2 for my birthday! So now I have SC2, and I'll be playing that. I never did figure out how to make games on iCCup so this is probably for the best.

After much consideration, I've decided that I want to play zerg. Terran doesn't fit my style of play, and neither does Protoss. i don't like Terran macro that much (I'm probably just bad, but whatever), and I hate PvP. And TvT. No me gusta.

So now I play Zerg. I like droning and expanding (probably a bit too much), and I think that this really fits my playstyle. I like making a shitton of units at the very last second to kill an attack. It's fun. Also, I don't organize my bases very well, so with Zerg, there's almost no clutter whatsoever. It fits.

So now I have a few questions for the TL community. I'm focusing on 3 build orders for the 3 matchups. So I looked on Liquipedia and found the following. Are these builds that are good for me to be attempting?

ZvT: 2 Base Muta
ZvP: Speedling expand
ZvZ: No idea =P

Bronze league btw, I tanked my matches on purpose.

you have a good idea for start: learn 1 build order for each amtchup
zerg will be a bit tough to learn, since they require great decision making.

here is what i'd do in your case,as a new sc2 player and bronze starter:
- learn 1 safe/normal build order per race (someone else can suggest which, since i have 0 experience in zerg)
- learn 2-3 cheese builds, 1 base strats. those are aggressive funky strategies which will catch an unaware opponent offguard.

even though many will disagree with the cheese builds: you need them, believe me
you aren't going to cheese nonstop, but a fair bit of it is good for your learning experience in ladder because people WILL cheese you

The ZvT and ZvP build are good. Just remember to get a quick third vs Toss if he isn't doing any pushes.

For ZvZ, I use 15 Hatch, 15 Gas, 15 Pool. Scout at 9 to defend any cheese, and when the Pool is complete get speed, 2 queens, 2-6 zerglings, and immediately get a Roach Warren. Unless it is on maps with open naturals, then get Banelings instead of Roaches.

Also here is a little thing I like to do. On Shattered Temple and Metalopolis, I scout at 6 on the close position. If my opponent is close position, I just 10 pool for a quick win/loss because close position STemple and Metal suck for a macro game.

I don't understand why you would need cheese builds. They're useful if you're a tournament level player, but ladder is for practice, so cheesing is pretty silly if you play with the intent on getting good. You can learn timings vs cheese builds just by playing against them.

no you can't, he'll be pretty pissed off when he encounters that so many games just evolve around a timing push or funky cheese, he'll lose in a game where he plays standard all the time.

the specialization of a new player to 3 BO's for the 3 matchups and some cheese/timing push builds are perfectly fine for the beginning imo

15 hatch/14 pool or 14 gas/14 pool are both good builds for ZvZ. I wouldn't recommend 15 hatch/14 pool to a bronze level player though because it's easily countered by a very early (6/7/8) pool (which you'll see a lot of from bronze zergs.)

Why not? You can learn how to scout the particular build and learn how to counter it just by reading or experiencing against it. Getting pissed over ladder is a personal problem, and I doubt cheesing would make everyone happy.

learn how to scout lol you do realize how hard that is for a bronze?
that's one of the last things you learn, that and decision making
