One month ago i had to say goodbye to a friend. We had spent time together almost everyday for 8 years. She had been with me through some of the happiest moments of my life and the saddest.
The thing is that she was using me for the most part of our freindship. I kinda knew her from the start and people said that she is a bad person but i still couldn't resist her. Something draw me to her.
I met her through my friends and they have all broken the contact with her so i guess that made it easier for me to move away from her. She didn't say much from the start when i said to her that i dont want to se her again but the second day she kept calling me but i just ignored. The calls faded and stopped after 2 weeks. Now i never hear from her and im free! Hope i never se you again...

Thats why im calling it a she. For me it was super easy to quit. I thought it was going to be a challange and i was looking forward to this fight but im dissapointed. It was too easy. How i did it was that i didn''t make a big deal about it. I just threw it away and told no one for the first few days. I didn't keep track of the days and when i felt a need for nicotine i just told myself that my brain was lying and that im smarter then that. I was at a party last night. I were with some of my old friends and they had all quit tobacco. We had some beers and was going to go hit the town. It've always been that you drink some and then go out and have a smoke. I had a really rough inner conversation with myself that i wouldn't smoke. One side said that it's a party and tobacco is a part of it, and it's ok. The other half told me that if you are going to quit you can never smoke ever again. I decided to go with the side that said that you cant smoke ever again.
Later when we got out my friends that have "stopped" started smoking and said that it was okey for them to smoke at parties, it's a part of it. (I guess you call it partysmokers?)
My question to you is is it okey to be a partysmoker and say that you're not a smoker?

Congrats man hope you never hang out with her again! My friends I know that tried to quit always go back when they start to drink. Anyways its a good habit to break because it doesn't do anything for your life, unlike working out. If you are able to substitute her for working out I think your will have made your life a lot better.

My mother was diagnosed about a month ago with Lung Cancer. I quick smoking June 1st. I feel good, still crave, crave a lot, but I'm staying strong.

That is AWESOME! I've been clean for ~3 years now after being a heavy smoke/snus addict for 8 years or so. Feeling super nowadays. Just be sure to stay strong and avoid falling back! :D

LOL I don't see what's the problem with quitting smoking. Done that a thousand times already, ezpz.
Anywhooooooo, good job. I smoked for a bout a year in middleschool, decided to quit one day and never smoked again. Just keep at it now.

I actually stopped smoking for a week at one point some years ago. I thought it was so easy so i thought to myself "if it's this easy then i can just buy 1 more package and stop after it, how much can it hurt?"...

congratz! try to stay off it and avoid temptation. hopefully you wont get drunk and then accidentally start up again.
and i would say a partysmoker is still a smoker... just not as habitual

As for the "smoking @ parties", I just wouldn't risk it. Not just because nicotine is addictive (which it is), but because you might tie the positive emotions of being at the party and enjoying yourself with the cigarette. Then next time you're alone and feeling down you might want to light one up, and your noble fight has been lost.

I think smoking at a party depends on how much you party. If you party once a week I think it's a bad idea...

Congrats! I quit tobacco about 2 years ago and know what its like. As for partysmokers..I don't see the point. Either quit and don't do it at all or not. There is no middle ground to me.

That's wassup man. I got with her too at college but I'm slowly weening myself since it's summer and there's not really any peer pressure. I was able to quit cold turkey pretty easily.
that's also cuz I have another chick by the of M.J. She and I will be together for a bit more...until I become more mature you know.

i think smoking at parties is bad when you have quit tobacco already. i will probably just drag you back in. i don't think it's very harmful for people who never were addicted and who just have one or two smokes with a beer at a night out (or who smoke when they are very drunk (me) :p).

Yeah...tobacco and alcohol does mean ass things. But nah, don't do it man. Your body has the disposition to become addicted. It might even be genetic so smoking at when your drunk can only lead to a slippery slope.

Well, this girl that you've broken up with, you know, she wants more. She's stalking you out, trying to accidentally bump into you at parties, social gatherings and what not.
To you, getting back together at a party seems like a one night stand but to her it will just add fuel to the flames and you'll just bump into her more and more, at every damn party.
Soon, you'll have a party in your apartment, have your way with her (just this one time, right?) and BAM, before you know it, her toothbrush will be on you sink and then you're back together. You'll have to go through the whole break up again.

Even I, who's really only smoking at parties (and even then it's really rare) don't dare to call myself a non-smoker. I think it'll be quite difficult to refrain from smoking if you still smoke at parties. I know quite a lot of people who tried to smoke only on parties and they fell back into their habit pretty soon. But oh well, never were addicted, never needed to quit, never went through that.

I tried to be a "partysmoker" and started to smoke regulary, twice.
It's not from one day to another.
It takes month where I was a "partysmoker" then there was stress on work or gf quited or just a lovly warm evening on the balcony. I think the step to smoke regulary is smaler when you smoke from time to time.
Otherwise, a friend of mine is partysmoker for some years now.
I would'nt risk it on your position.

Congratulations man. My grandfather died of lung cancer and I will never smoke a day in my life as a result. I'd rather he'd have lived instead of being an example. But you'll live, good job.
