I can roughly remember what music I was listening to at each age in my life after age 11. I like to them of them as periods in my life. There were some traumatic events, bad situations and things you'd want to push out of your mind between age 11 and now though. The problem is - my memories are ridiculously intertwined with music. Every now and then I'll hear a song and instantly remember the most prominent memories of who I was with or where I was when listening to this song. Sometimes I'll just feel the emotions I had associated with the music at the time. It's to the point where I flat-out avoid some songs just the avoid the memories they'll bring back. As an example, I had some troubles with drugs that caused a lot of really stressful situations. I was hardcore into 80s pop music at the time. If I hear one of those songs, I feel stressed. I may still love the song, but I can't stand to listen to it because of the memories/emotions connected to it.

The friend I talk about in that blog fucking loved Bush, and if we listened to music that's usually who it was. I typically avoid their music now ;/

After a quick google search I found this.

So my question for anyone reading. Do you have any memories associated with bad feelings/people/situations? If so, were you able to overcome it? How?

Yeah, but my music is generally associated with good things...I wouldn't know how to get over it otherwise.

same here!
i was lucky to have a pleasant childhood so it's usually really nice memories...what i like especially is that i was on lan-parties and there was someone that everytime had a booth where he played a stupid song for hours - and everytime i hear that stupid song on radio or while driving it just reminds me of an awesome time and i just have to

Hahaha, it's funny this was brought up...

So today I heard Fireflies by Owl City, which I hadn't heard in sometime. Every time I hear this song it makes me feel really nostalgic, and brings back strong memories of Grade 12. Well anyways, I remember there was this one girl I really liked back then-- I had a huge crush on her throughout High School and she had really liked that song. The year after Grade 12 I took off, and worked full time while she went to college so that was pretty much that, but god damn did I ever try to maintain relations. We had a Christmas party for our work that year, complete with a DJ and all, to which I invited her. Anyways, after all the dancing had pretty much wrapped up I of course asked the DJ for a slow song to which we could dance.

God fucking damn master troll, he played Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden-- the worst, cheesiest song ever. Whatever, we still danced but neither of us could help but laughing the whole time. This memory still makes me laugh and shake my head, sigh. Anyways, lesson learned: always specify which song you want the DJ to play.
