I spend hours watching replays and commentaries on youtube and I've spent more hours trying to get my builds working and yet, when I jump on the ladder, I get spanked like a red-headed step child. Somewhere I'm missing some key element and I'm really debating whether or not I should get some tutoring to plug these holes in my strategies. Anyone here ever done it and if so, was it useful and a good use of your time/money? I have no aspirations to being a top player, I do not have the time for that, I just want to win and loose in roughly equal amounts. I'm loosing so much at this point that the game is ceasing to be fun and clicking over to find a game is not something I can really get excited about anymore.

Thoughts? And, if you've gotten tutoring and you had a good experience, maybe through up the dude's info and prices.

I know what you mean, and I experience this all the time. You're probably focused on builds, maybe play a few games with friends or something like that. My problem is normally nerves. You should relax a bit more as you play and don't overreact over tiny things like drone scouts. You really don't need tutoring when you have the builds down right. Just relax, and play the game :D

Try sharing a few replays with your friends first, see if they can spot some inconsistencies or lacks in your game. You should be able to pick up a fair few points to improve here without having to shell out large ammounts of money to high-profiled celebrity coaches.

If you use your left hand well and dont do anything really weird, you can just upload some replays and have tl let a look at it. Also i would just mass game instead of watching youtube.
also what level are you at and what is your race?

As a beginner myself, I find watching FPVODs way more helpful than watching replays or even commentaries (unless they are really in-depth). Try to focus on what's happening in the game as such and understand why player reacts the way he does. Over time you can try pausing and imagining for a while what you'd do - then proceed to see the rest of the game. If you're anywhere close you're on a right track of understanding the game.
If you understand the game and refine your mechanics, which is just practice, you gotta be out of bronze in no time.

This can help you in the beginning A LOT, unlike watching commentated reps, where the caster just tells you everything. It's like sitting in school and not paying attention vs. sitting down with a coffee and actually studying.

However, don't fall into the trap of trying to play the same as progamers. If you try to micro as hard as them, you can never manage to macro properly. Solid macro is way more important for you in the beginning. When I started, a lot of the games I would just send scv to scout and just macro, expand, macro macro. And try to defend whatever the oponnent threw at me. A lot of times the oponnent won't use your lack of aggression to expand over the whole map, but even if he does it doesn't matter. Once you get these macro mechanics down, you can try to begin poking at your opponent and you'll usually find him unprepared since bronze level macro sucks I guess. I'm talking from BW experience though, where macro is a story of its own.

If you play constantly you will find yourself in a 50%~ WLR because of the nature of ladder.

Watching things is half the battle, you still need good mechanics and decision making skills to win games.

You can just 3 rax people and dominate for now. I like that the most because it's simple and it keeps you busy but not too busy so you can improve on macro. Maybe practice it 10 times in yabot over a couple days and play 20 ladder games.

First Person Video on Demand, I think.

Basically he's referring to videos where you're watching the screen of what the player himself is looking at, as if you were right next to him, looking at him play.

Since you mentioned still being in bronze, I don't think getting coached is worth it. It's very easy to go from bronze to gold/platinum just on practice alone, which is where most people start hitting a wall, although it differs from player to player.

I think it'd be a lot more cost effective for you to just post up replays of yourself here, and I'm sure a lot of people (myself included) wouldn't mind going through them and telling you specifically what you need to improve on. Don't worry about showing people sloppy or amateurish play; It's the exact reason you're stuck in bronze and exactly what we need to look at to be able to tell you how to improve.

As for your goal of achieving a 50-50 win rate, as Vlare mentioned, the way Bnet ladder works is that it tries to keep your winrate as close to 50% as possible. Just because you get a 50% winrate doesn't mean you're improving, because a diamond player with 50% winrate is almost definitely better than a bronze player with 50% winrate. You should set a better goal, like simply becoming a better player or getting promoted to higher leagues.

So the live user streams?

The 50-50 thing is just a for instance. Obviously I want to be a better player, I'm just at the point now where I'm almost expecting a loss anytime I jump in to a game. Is there a specific place where people post up replays and a how-to to get it done? Or do I just throw up a new blog about it.

Posting them up on a new blog is probably your best bet I think. It'd be good if you could post short descriptions on each replay you upload as well, like what the matchup was, what your gameplan was, and why you think you won/lost the game etc. just anything that'll help people sort through your replays better for analysis

Do I need to upload this to something like sc2replays and then link it in to here or can I upload directly to TL?

Getting coaching should only be your option if you have absolutely no starcraft 2 friends to work off of. I've tried posting replays in TL in the past and its hard to get someone to help you. At least in my case I haven't had any luck.

I purchased an hour at Gosucoaching and I've got to say that it was well worth it. Tutoring or coaching or whatever you want to call it is simply just a major time saver. If you're busy like me and value your time, it's not a waste of money to invest in a little coaching. Coaching won't instantly make you a pro, but it definitely give you the right mindset on how to improve yourself in the right direction.

Say for example you're just going to practice hard all on your lonesome and try to figure things out yourself. If you're extremely good about mimicking other pros from their replays and streams, then you will have some success eventually. If you're trying to figure everything out yourself because you think yourself as an amazing genius then chances are you're going to end going down wrong path to GrandMasters and hit a wall at some point in your career.

Link it here, I don't think you can upload directly to TL. Any upload site is fine, as long as it's not a hassle for people to download from.
