Could be a good thing. Could be a bad thing. You decide. It may not even matter.
My experience:
Age range = 8 to 35 The young could be mature, the old may be immature.
Sex = Mainly straight men, maybe 10% women and gay men The insecure men would say words like "gay" or "fag" to insult people.
Personality = mixed bag, but mostly tainted due to the security of the internet There are nice people, and there are mean people. There are sheep who follow. There are vultures who prey on the weak.
Music tastes = A lot who listen to rock and metal, not so much Ms Spears/JB (JB could mean Justin Bieber or Jonas Brothers) The insecure would also say bad things about singers they have no experience about.
There are spammers. There are trolls. There are liars and cheaters.
They are those who could care less about the Terms of Use from Blizzard and would get reported by people like me.
There are extremely nice Swedes. There are really cute Dutch people. The British usually coordinate in team games. (The French don't.)
There are those who could speak many languages and are extremely talented (wink wink), and so could overcome any differences.
All in all, it's a nice experience to meet all these people.

All I know is that the level of BM at Diamond 1v1 vastly surpasses the level of BM I'm used to on iccup.
|
To be honest, the level of bad manner that exists in this game, only game with equally much bm I've been playing is like WoW. And it was baad there, but ingame sc-2 bm, is starting to shape up to that imo.

Iccup has no almost no BM. Its amazing. I guess its because its hard to pull off cheese, or rather you actually need skills even if you are cheesing.
You can;t tell me rate this blog 1 star if i disagree....make me!

10% women and gay men?? How would you know anything like this?? I'm thinking most people don't really feel like telling that kind of information to random people on the internet, especially if they are just here to play the game.
I dunno this is really silly. You are making huge leaps, so it's not really based on your experience, it's just guessing.

Yea, in BW you can basically pin 99% of your games down to your own flaws.
Playing Zerg in Sc2 its like....2 incomplete 100 mineral buildings beside my ramp outright kill me T_T. I do remember a lot of annoying stuff in BW too though, especially TvP. Getting DT dropped and failing to scout a carrier transition were possibly the 2 most fucking annoying things in the history if a video game lol

You can;t tell me rate this blog 1 star if i disagree....make me! I've gotten bm'd pretty hard on iccup tbh. ^^ Not to mention wgtour/pgtour back in the days. I've been bm'd by some pretty manner current pro's even.

As an observer, I tend to agree with the OPs statement.. Even in the forums people are nasty at times. In discussing this with other people, it was attributed to anonymity. It seems, too, that the men can dish it out, but they can't take it.
Anyway, I am so perplexed and frustrated with all the BM and disrespect for one another, particularly women (could be because it's mostly male territory?) that, just last week, I felt compelled to pose the question in my blog. "Does StarCraft Breed Bad Manners, or Should We Blame the Parents?"

Poll: Gender?
Male (6482) 98%
Female (128) 2%
6610 total votes You have already voted in this poll.
From the TL census, sure it might not cover it all but to give you an idea, females are only on 2% right now, also there is NO way AT all that you can see if someone is gay at all unless you check the Gay Starcraft community thread, which in no way makes up 10% together with the females. And this is just the TL census, overall the divide between males and females will most likely be much larger. No really, how can you tell if you play a player on the internet and say, hmm well he is gay , or it is a female I am currently playing.

Counter-point:
DotA. I don't know of any game with the amount of BM/rage as exists in that game.

Hon/LoL are pretty bad, but they are all of the same genre, but Yeah Dota is pretty bad.

I've been assured in game many times during PvPs that other 'toss players can tell I'm gay because of the way I fourgate.

The people I have met from TL.net have been nothing but great friendly people, who are good gamers. But I have met complete asshats, who call me a pussy for blocking off my ramp.
Take the bad with the good ;-)
