Recently I played a bit of online in hopes of refining a certain build. Since I am still in Practice Leagues and all that, I thought of playing there for the extra pressure. I sometimes work well on pressure. And I lost 4 games in a row.

As I mentioned in my previous blog, I was going for the three barracks, one factory build, followed by starport for the sneak attack by banshee. Aside from poor tactics, there are a few reasons why I am sucking so hard:

1. I focus way too much on APM.

Like the novice I was, I was fucking spamming the hell out of the right mouse button to minerals and I am trying to do act before thinking. It's unnecessary and it's a habit I really must stop right away. I should learn to take things slow, try to focus on the build I want, and if I fail, least I learned something from it.

2. I was playing against the style I want to play out of pressure.

In the past games I have played, I have always played defensively. Recently, I was trying to take the initiative and it bit me right in the butt. I never was good with being aggressive. My play-style has been more about being sneaky, which is why I love using banshees on most of my games.

3. I should learn when is the right time for me to build supply depots.

I was too focused on making a lot of units, that I forget to make supply depots three or four times so far. I need to learn the right time for me to make depot. I was thinking along the lines of making supply depots when I got 5 supply left. If you got some tips of your own, hopefully you will let me know.

4. I keep pressing the wrong hotkeys by mistake.

Whether it's assigning a group to a certain hotkey, to even setting up a rally point, I always screw that one up. One point, I was supposed to use my Command Center hotkey only to find that its been replaced with an SCV. I am sooo DERP!

5. I take this game way too seriously.

While I have played my share of RTS gaming, Starcraft II is the first game I ever got to play online (LAN doesn't count). And I keep forgetting what Day 9 mentioned on his videos that playing Starcraft II is all about fun. I got nothing to lose anyway, so why take this game seriously?

6. I should play online often.

I play about 1 online game at least and the maximum amount of times I played Starcraft was 4 times. I need to play that game a little bit more and hopefully it will all come down to me naturally in time, which could take a while. But hey, Starcraft II ain't going nowhere!

Anyways, now that I have gotten all this out of my chest, I think it's time for me to get some rest.

Disregard APM completely. Focus on making your build smoother and on your macro, APM will increase as everything else improves.

As for supply depots, don't be afraid to get your cap 30-40 supply over your current food, it's much better than getting stuck with no production for 30 seconds numerous times in the game. Only for the first 3 (or so) depots try to make them at the exact food, depending on your build.

Personally I wouldn't do any kind of a pressure build when only starting out with a competitive RTS, if you're inclined to improve. Do solid macro builds with no micro-based tactics as a major part of your strategy and you'll improve much faster. Day[9]'s Newbie Tuesdays are great, check them out.

I have been following the guy about a week ago from a friend of mine from Skype. He has been really good at teaching his viewers the know how of Starcraft II.

Shame though that I either miss this streams because I wake up way too late or have to wait 6 hours if I want to download his videos directly from Blip.

Anyways, this is what I am trying to do. Thankfully I still got about 30 plus practice matches to play. And I am learning the build order stealing process he mentioned.

Yeah honestly dude, don't do this. I don't mean this as trying to be rude/offensive but you are the definition of a noobie: somebody who is very new to the game. I wouldn't get serious about starcraft until you at the point where you are literally learning money from it...that's the only reason to take starcraft seriously. Simply put, don't pretend you are a pro when you are not. For reference, I played competitive Brood War for 4 years on and off...you'd think I'd be really good right considering all the time I put into it? By the end of it I was still terrible.

Basic lesson is that you will almost always not be as good as others in a game like this...so why try to act all pro and take shit super seriously? You can improve in starcraft while having fun. Just relax and enjoy it.
