An intro: Pretentious Music Corner is my blog series that will highlight my favorites in relatively new independent music. This will cover dubstep, indie rock, a little folk, electro, indie dance, and whatever else. Each post I'll cover a different artist/band. Feel free to shit on my opinions as I'm just another pretentious hipster.
This post: Sleigh Bells
Sleigh Bells consists of guitarist Derek E. Miller, formerly of Poison the Well, and vocalist Alexis Krauss, formerly of some teen girl group that never really made it.
You can decribe their sound as noise-pop, but I've never really heard anything else like it. Imagine Rage with a more dancey vibe and a girl's vocals. I guess.
To date they've released one relatively rough sounding demo EP ("Sleigh Bells") and a 2010 album entitled "Treats".
A lot of people are saying they're overrated, and that's probably true. But their unique sound and relatively catchy material are fun, and probably good when playing StarCraft. Enjoy!
Infinity Guitars- Off their debut album "Treats". Delicious track that leaves you headbanging or dancing depending on the kind of person you are. Pretty heavy. Pretty catchy. Not a bad music video.
Rill Rill- Not-as-heavy selection off "Treats". Laid back. Krauss's vocals like honey over a driving guitar line.
Tell 'Em (Diplo Remix)- A slightly lighter version of their lead single "Tell 'Em" remixed by the ever prolific DJ Diplo. Slightly housey. Elements of dubstep.
Wow, this seems really cool. Second video wasn't available in Canada .
Not really digging the music for casual listening, but it has a good beat for laddering or something like that. Good stuff, looking forward to the next issues!
I love Sleigh Bells! It's kind of hip-hoppy, and it's happy music. Childish Gambino did raps over Infinity Guitars and Crown On The Ground for his mixtapes. Really great stuff, he is a really good lyricist.

Deifnitely check out some of his other stuff if you are a fan of any type of hip-hop because this guy does everything.
wow that IS Donald Glover... I was like wtf is that him? and I searched around and it is him; lol, never knew he did rap too been watching since derrick comedy, sigh, good times
Nice blog series, will be looking forward to these posts :D
Have you ever seen them live? They're coming next week and it's pretty cheap but I dunno if they're worth seeing live, I've heard bad things on the internet. :3

I've heard they've improved miles since they've started performing live. They're touring with CSS. I'm seeing them in May. Up to you if you want to see them.

CSS is super sick.
Yea, but it's a bad opener, and if Sleigh Bells sucked it wouldn't be worth it.
I'll probably go see them now! It's super cheap and like you said, CSS is also awesome!
