I have the opportunity to organize a Tournament here in Tucson, Arizona where I am from. I'm going to talk with a local business and see if we can get some sponsors, but I have no idea where else to go from here. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could do as far as getting things together? I am going to talk to the woman in charge of events on Monday and I want to have as many options as possible.
If any of you live in Arizona, and would like to play please let me know! I want to try to get as many people involved with this, and maybe we can get a good cash pool going to make it worth it for people to come down here. Come on people! Let Arizona know that we care about Starcraft! -Archaleus

No problem! Actually check out http://www.azsc2.com , they just started the site but it'll be a good place to get SC2 better promoted in Arizona.

Hey, when you are going to a sponsor you need to be able to prove your worth. The first thing I would recommend is holding non-sponsored tournies to drum up interest and to prove to your sponsor there are people in the area that will actually get involved.
Up in Edmonton (Canada) we have been doing just that since the game came out and have had decent turn-outs we just recently started to move in earnest toward a sponsored tournament with getting ICCUP to cast, (which was awesome and got more then 15k unique IP's with a peak of 1500 viewers for the semi's and finals)
When you go to sponsors I think (from my limited expierence) you really need to know your shit, take numbers of previous tournaments viewership from other similar tournaments as well as numbers like TSL's 50k viewer peak and show them the sheer numbers of people involved. Also, don't forget they view this as a form of advertisement so target businesses that aim for the 18-30 male demographic (which we for the most part are) Different gaming groups have different demo's and from the research I have seen the closest numbers I have seen are 19% female-81% male; Excepting for WoW where it is actually closer to a 1in 3 ratio.
We are also quite lucky to have a decent;y active scene in Edmonton in all competitive games and even have a website that is frequented by many people when searching for a tournament or even local news. ( edmontongamers.com ) My co-organizer is the owner and operator of the site and originator of the SC2 tournaments in Edmonton.
I would love to help you with any problems you come up against.
Throw me a PM.
