I am, without a shadow of a doubt, a self proclaimed, and unashamed, noob. Newb, nub, n00b, nabb. Whatever you want to call it. I hope that makes it clear: I am not very good at Starcraft, but I am at least partially in love with it.
But that is the inspiration for this blog. Lots of the blogs I have seen and enjoyed on here have been solely people detailing their games, especially high ranked players, or people talking about a whole different part of life. This will be, for anyone that is interested, my personal SC blog. I’m sure other things will come into it at points; that is unavoidable and hopefully interesting, but for the most part I will be talking Starcraft from a total ‘newbs’ perspective.
The overarching idea (something important to have within SC apparently), is that the blog will detail my attempt/attempts to move up the ladder, but also to interact with a small part of the fantastic SC community that is here. I know a few people have done this kind of thing before (I saw peanut had casted every game from bronze to plat?) but hopefully this will be a little different. I’ll also be talking about how, as a player who isn’t very good, SC fits in to my life and how those around me react to it as a hobby and as a competitive sport. Right now, the attitude towards playing competitive games is changing dramatically; you only have to pick up a copy of PCGamer to see that Starcraft is taking up several pages because it suddenly involves so many people. But this isn’t at all reflected in the people I know. A few have heard of Starcraft, and nearly all of those say something along the lines of ‘Oh that weird Korean thing?’
Watching Idra’s stream last night, I noticed there were ‘OVER 9000’ others doing exactly the same. I mused unto myself, ‘How has it come to be that this many people sit at their computers and watch another person play a computer game which they can play...right now.’ I’m still musing unto myself because I can’t quite work it out, and I didn’t stop watching the stream. Hopefully that’s something I’ll be able to figure out over the course of this...whatever it is.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I’m a bronze league player, a Journalism student with some time on their hands and a girlfriend who disapproves.
If you want to follow this and see where it goes that would be awesome, if not I’ll just have to reaper rush you in game. I’ll be trying to post something every day/couple of days, but I’m not going to obligate myself just yet. Life’s busy ya’ know?
Until next time...or the time after.
