Maybe it's more complicated than this but I really don't think cosmetics is as important as most people I guess.
Whether or not cosmetcis of the car is important or not is up to the owner of that car. That's why no matter how serious or how light the bump is, if there is any trace (even a centimeter long pale scratch), I would like to be told.

You should tell them. At the very least if you don't then you pretty much lose the right to rage about people doing bad things to you.

I highly recommend that you do what you know to be the right thing and take the appropriate measures in reporting the incident or contacting the owners of the SUV. Maintaining your own personal integrity trumps temporary financial or relationship problems in the long run. Imagine what the world will come to if even generally good, trustworthy people like yourself ignore both the law and common human decency.

It's easy to just say this but if it's going to cause excessive hardship to your family(though in this case I really don't think it will), then it is about more than just you[him].
He didn't actually hurt anyone in this case. At most he caused them frustration or mild financial trouble.

So a friend from church calls me up and asks me if I can help him move. I agreed and went over to his place the next day. When I got there, I saw that he had asked for more help from other church men. Furthermore, one of these guys brought in a huge-ass truck to help with the moving. When we were almost done packing all of the things into the truck, one of the guys gets into it and backs it out of the parkway. Whilst doing this, he literally trashed this luxurious-looking car, which was also the car of a handicapped old man (from the looks of it); he pretty much dented the thing almost one foot in from all the way from mid front door to the back light, which also broke to pieces.
I felt like a complete piece of shit, and I wasn't even close to it.
I thought we better inform whoever owned the car that we had turned it into a pile of shit. But all of these so called "Christian" men just looked at me like I was an idiot and left the place shaking in their underwear.
I was the last one to leave the place... after writing the name and phone number of this jackass on a piece of paper and placed it on the poor man's windshield.
I never went back to that church, as it seemed everyone in there was just a dumb, self-absorbed hypocrite.

if you do go to this person and tell them it was your fault /blahblahblah who is going to pay for it? If you say insurance, who is going to pay the new elevated insurance bill?
IMO if your parents are paying, they are the ones you need to listen to. Now if you are paying for it yourself/your going to start paying for your insurance, then go for it.
But if it's going to be your parents' financial burden, then you kinda just have to suck it up and do exactly what they tell you... and when you are paying for everything yourself THEN you can tell your parents they were wrong and you felt terrible, and then you can contact the person and pay for it yourself.
It's REALLY easy to say, "I'll own my mistake and man up" and then hand the bill to some1 else =/

So Sung Moon are you going to tell us what you did to handle the situation?
|
Insurance might cover it? I wouldn't worry.

In my honest opinion here is what I think, don't take it offensively or anything.
you feel bad because someone has to pay for your mistake. But even that injustice you don't want to pay money for what you did, so instead you post in teamliquid because it will make you feel better because you are confessing your sins and are not hiding it and it has a little bit but you still feel guilty.
Question you gotta ask yourself is are you willing to pay for the repairs so you don't feel guilty anymore... if not im pretty sure your like 90% of the people in the world but you just got stuck in a situation that they didn't.
Way to look at it is... his insurance will probably pay for it and the person might not even get an increase on it... also another thing to consider if there were cameras you can be facing a 10,000$+ fine+insurance increase on your side, maybe even a quite a big demerit increase on your liscense

this is gonna earn every single one of your guys hatred/scorn/flames but i went back to hospital, faked a story to check if there were any camera's (there wasn't) and i go back to check if the SUV was still there (it wasn't). so i basically just shrugged my shoulder, visited my grandma and left.
i'm not way trying to justify what i did, but once again, my car only has scratches (literally not even slightly dented) and the other one had like a fist indented 2-3 inches deep. they probably didn't even notice or just went "oh well its barely noticeable".
i suck as a human being and i know karma will strike me back somehow

Ive hit mirrors and dinged quite a few cars without reporting it. However I don't feel compelled to when they park on the bike path so I end up accidentally hitting their mirror at 60kmh when the conditions get bad, not to mention it turns a bike path into a suicide strip.
or they park in a way that deserves them getting hit, like taking up 1.5 spaces, or so close to one side that you can't open your door, or on an angle so every other car has to park on that same angle.

I was expecting something good, this did not deliver :|

go back, and own up to hitting the car. how would you feel if someone acted the way you're acting, and hit your parked fuckin car and drove off?

Meh I can still respect you for going back though, for the other car's dent, here's whats gonna happen. The owner will have his insurance pay for it and he will just pay a small deductible depending how much it is. Oh well at least you got rid of the guilt? =P

Gotta be the one who calls you out on this :/ I kinda hope you get caught, I work full time and still barely get by, the last thing i would want if for some careless douche to hit my car and then run away because they're not be man enough to face up to it, most people who are barely getting by dont have full coverage on their car insurance so who knows what their insurance will and wont pay for. But either way their car is damaged, they may still have to pay for some repairs out of their pockets, and they've lost re-salve value on their car should they eventually decide to sell it.
And even if their insurance covers the whole thing, in the end your actions say a lot about your character and you're quite the coward :/

Depends on what insurance they have.. Could end up being a good $1000 or so.
Honestly that's an incredibly dick thing to do but its not like anyone can do anything about it.

If you saw and described the damage correctly, you caused a minimal damage of "2 inches" or 5 centimeters deep. That is a very noticeable dent (even assuming that your have small hands).

Oh man I did this but it was because i was parking a big ass SUV. I gunned it out of there afterwards >< Feel so guilty

TBH I don't really blame you because you're a kid who got scared and asked his dad for advice. You were basically ready to do whatever he told you, and assuming he would chew you out. But you have to realise your dad is a piece of shit and you should pay for the damages.
