I know this is the blog section but I didn't figure I'd disgrace the general forum with such a silly idea but I figured I'd bounce a silly tournament idea off you blog folks.
Would any of you be interested in watching a tournament with maybe 8 or 16 popular players, all being forced to play off race? Or perhaps, their opponent chooses what race they play? Maybe everyone being forced to go random would be a better idea.
If you threw like 500 bucks at it for first place or something, I bet we could get some pros to bite. Do you think it would be something you'd like to watch?
Personally, I'd find it completely fun and amazing to watch. Despite them being off race, the worst we could possibly expect out of professional players is still like top 20 Master League play.
The thought came to me while thinking how funny it would be seeing IdrA playing Protoss after his recent opinions on the race and such. Anyway, hopefully little hate comes but what do you guys think?
I'd watch that in an instant.

Wouldn't it just be worse games than if they are playing their main race?

I remember seeing some BW stuff where the players played each others race, i'd watch this.

I think it's good to inject a little silliness and something different into the game now and then.

I thought about that some time ago, the thing with the random tournament I mean. Even more fun would be if you invited players like tasteless/artosis/day9/tlo/morrow for it because all of them played at least 2 races more or less competively. Really not sure though if any of those players, or generally pros, would compete in such a tournament. I mean it's time wasted that they could spend in practicing their main race^^

What would anyone watch (and PAY) for a game where the players are forced to play below their standards?
Like you said, silly. Forget it man.

TLO wins gg

TLO shouldn't be allowed to play imo, every race was his main race at one point D:

Like you said, silly. Forget it man. If someone would pay for that crazy Dreamhack Coin Toss tournament, I'm pretty sure some sponsor out there would shell a few hundred dollars for something like this.
As to why people would play "below their standards" I'd still like to think that a number of pros still consider this game something fun to do and not something that is totally serious and every second at the keyboard must be spent doing something productive.
And KawaiiRice, I agree. I'm afraid (if I had that kind of money to shell out) we'd have to ban TLO from the tournament due to him being impossibly good at that kind of format.

Im sorry but has TLO won anything yet, regardless of his race? If you insist on this competition by all means let ANYONE (pro) play. Still, it won't take off. For sure.

And it will be a more fun and enjoyable version of a silly tournament for the observers than the dreamhack coin flip tourny was lol.

I'd watch it. And you probably could get a sponsor to throw in about 500 dollars if you told them you would put their name on everything in the tournament.
Why so much pessimism? I think this is a great idea.
And I think TLO should be able to play. It's not like the other pros couldn't do what he did, so it shouldn't work against him. (Although the hard part would actually be getting TLO lol)

TLO's 1st place victories:
PokerIdol Tournament (5000 British pound cash prize, 3:0 over Sjow) Sc2Casts.com Invitational ($150 + $50 pimpest play, 3:1 over Dimaga)
He also won a show-match against White-ra in the Beta, 4-1 I believe.
Plus numerous finals appearances such as the TeamSpeak TL Open 11, GLHF.it Closing Beta Invitational, and the PLU.cn Kaspersky Cup.

This is an actually amazing idea. I'd so want to watch something like this! :D and OMG id love to idra play protoss against a decent player! xD

While I dont like THIS idea too much, I would love the idea of a 'silly' tourney. Throw in some wacky requirements or maps or something to make it weird/random/exciting and I'd efinitely watch. Don't really have any ideas, but I'm sure custom map creators coudl think of some pretty awesome shit ;O
