First, I'd like to say this post was prompted by me rewatching a really old video from a few years back.

What moments in starcraft 2 have led to feel the love, passion, and soul of the game? Being unable to see the intense human emotions of the players on a regular basis (doesn't help that many of the players don't show much emotion in the first place O.o), I can see why it's so hard for people who are not into esports to understand why we love this game.

StarCraft 2 not so much, but I almost burst into tears at the conclusion of the first Korean Air OSL. Flash smiling, knowing he had finally beat his rival, while finishing off the remains of Jaedong's base.
That was the best moment in StarCraft history for me.

Starcraft is a way of expressing the perfection of the mind, measuring yourself up against your opponent in a brutal juxtapose of expression. The person who wins is the better player, in terms of that game. It offers instant satisfaction for victory, and instant humiliation for defeat. Something that team sports and school can't do, because they are always biased and not in your complete control. The kid next to you in an exam could have formulas hidden on his calculator, and the quarter back of the opposing team could be taking steroids. Not that the kid has them or the quarter back is taking pills, but the doubt sours the perfection. There is always the chance. You can't cheat in Starcraft, and when you do you are instantly shunned by the entire community for fucking up everyone's view of the game. In school you just fail an exam and take a 0, and in football it is rarely a large suspension. Because our community is so elitist, small, and loving, we have more power than a university or a football federation over the social sanctions of interaction.
Starcraft is so full of emotion BECAUSE of our perceived perfection of the competition between one and another, which is why we "nerds" are so secluded from the rest of society. No one understands or cares to embrace the perfection of a virtual battleground with controlled variables, they just care about being spoon-fed their happiness. We embrace difficulty, and spill the blood of other nerds to obtain our true happiness.

That was a nice video. A lot of the time players are offline and so emotion is not shown but in korean BW there were lots of times when people are sweating, crying, joyful and shocked.
Its nice to watch

I had so many moments like that when I watched Broodwar. Only now are those moments for SC2 starting to come to light, and it is still only faint at best. However the light is there. There are some amazing games out there which are really showing some amazing potential for the soul of the game itself.
SC2 will only get better, and those moments of sheer brilliance are going to come to light more and more every day.
