So, I was thinking one day and I came up with a brilliant idea. Why don't I do a panel about Esports at Otakon!? I mean this is like super ideal. I can teach new people about different communities and inform people about really neat games and still have an excuse to go to Otakon.

Now, you may be thinking what the hell is Otakon. Otakon, is an anime convention that is held every summer in Baltimore. I think it is the biggest convention on the east coast.

The next question is lol...an anime convention? People will probably will never come to this ever. This may be true however they have console tournaments with very decent turnouts. So, there might be people who are interested in these types of games but don't know where to find the communities to get involved. Or they are simply curious and want to hang out in a panel until their next activity comes up.

I'm thinking of this type of layout:

-What is esports?
Have a brief history (which I'm kind of shaky on) about competitive gaming.
List a few games that are currently used and platforms that they are played on.

-Where to play?
List different tournament organizations. When they got started and what games they now support.

-Where to watch?
Highlight different websites to watch matches and talk a little about streaming technology.

-Famous Pro Gamers
Maybe show famous clips of infamous players from various games.

I think that probably can fill out a nice hour and should be able to educate the masses.If you think I missed something super important that is key to the presentation that would be super beneficial.

This panel will probably be at 9am on a Friday or some such nonsense but it would be worth it if 5 people show up and learn something from it.

god, please don't further taint the already immature community by merging it with anime people

but disregarding my personal opinion and being objective... why?? e-sports is such a broad term. It's like having a booth for 'sports' at the thing. You can't possibly have enough time to touch on major things.

a more specific panel on FPS esports or RTS esports would probably be better. you miss far too much on a bbroad stroke

This would be awesome.

Might want to append/rename to "competitive video gaming" as opposed to just plain ESPORTS, because I think that term is far more frequently thrown around in regard to SC than anything else. For something to encompass all of that you'd definitely need a lot more people on the panel as well.

Considering how anime people are obsessed with competitive DDR, I think this would make good sense.

Yeah, I was thinking of just using competitive gaming as the exact same reasons as you stated. Its funny when I say esports to my mom she just is like wait what?

I also understand the concern of just having too much crap to go over and not giving people enough detail about a particular game. Probably a decision that I will have to come to eventually when compiling everything together. There is also making sure to squeeze everything in too!

Getting people as guests for this panel is going to be interesting since I don't really talk to anyone. I just need to stop being shy and ask a few people if they want to 1) go to otakon (its kind of expensive :<) and 2) be willing to talk about their experiences/explain stuff which I know won't be an issue.
