Firstly, I'm not diamond just yet, but I've been playing and steamrolling 30+ rank diamonds, often times 15 or 10+.
However, this strange nature of my laddering keeps tending to occur of late: I beat consistently, for the most part, the very high rank diamonds and such without too many problems, and yet, those games which I lose are almost ALWAYS to medium-low PLAT players, or like rank 60 diamonds.
I can easily handle a rank 9 diamond Zerg, but not a rank 50 Plat terran (this happened yesterday)
I think its due to the strats used mostly though. I can hold my own against the normalish play with all races PvZ,T,or P.
BUT, I tend to lose when they go strange strats like, for example that medium plat terran, a 3 hellion drop with marines in the base in a fairly large nubmer, into mass banshee w/o cloak and marines. I think I only really lost cuz he had 1 ghost EMP my army, the very second i was looking away to expand. Is that just an "aww, dangit" kinda blunder, and those type of things that would make me lose to these players? I lost to a low diamond toss becuase I didn't push out early enough with my 3gate robo, and he had defensive 4gate FEd, I think I waited for my colossi and by then he had a larger army and more colo.
Any helpful advice, comments, similar encounters whilst trying to actually get into Diamond from plat, would be appreciated (also, i'm currently 36 more wins than losses)

Most of the information you provided says nothing. Those plats could be good, those diamonds could be bad, but it sounds like you only know how to play against standard. Whether this is because you practice against it more, or because you've learned your playstyle from progames or d9dailys, you need to be able to think wider. Watch the replays of the wierd games, and think, how can i beat this? how can i not lose to this? how would i respond or alter my play so that I do not lose to this again?
Also, i dont think 1 emp lost you the game. i would concentrate on other factors, such as macro and unit composition and timing.

okay, thanks. i think it really boils down to timing against the weird stuff, to just, as day9 has said, go kill them if they're trying a mass banshee marine strat (prolly coulda broken his front a lot earlier).
also, i nkow rank isn't everything, but its just weird to me that i really tend to lose to the worse players, and win against the better ones for the most part

you have a problem that i had a while back, scout...a lot...thats the only way to hold off bullshit that tends to show up more within lower diamond

It could be that those high diamonds are stuck in their current position, whereas the low diamonds are climbing the ladder. Many times, the low diamond players are actually better. Of course, many times they are not as well. Some of the low plats that you are facing off against may have been unlucky in their placements and have had to work their way out of gold despite being a strong player.

If you think 'cheese' or 'unnormal' play gets any less prevalent in the higher leagues, you're sadly mistaken. make scouting a priority, not anything else.
