Just to introduce myself, I am a gold zerg player who is currently at 41-43. Yes I know that is terrible, and isn't that enough to say that I DESERVE to be in gold?
Well in my opinion I think I should at least be in plat. I used terran for my placement matches, even though I used zerg all beta and sc1 (I was D on iccupin sc1, and apparently that should be enough to get into diamond ), and went 4-1. However, I went something like 1-8 after that, and i already had a terrible win:loss score. I decided that zerg fits me the most and changed back. After getting used to the mechanics again, I think I was something like 20-20. I went 15-5 in the next 20 games, which is pretty decent, and I was hoping to get out of gold soon. However, 4 gate and marine/tank gave me a loss streak, because previously I didn't encounter them, and I ended up with 41-43. So I went to TL for help, watched pro games, etc. I haven't really played after that, as my friends were begging to play DotA with me. (Btw I can only play 2 hours a week, and usually I play some DotA or bops). I guess you are probs thinking "Noob, you SHOULD be in gold." Oh well.
Anyway, I have a friend who used to be bronze, and he played a marathon number of games and made it to plat. I challenged him to a Bo5. He is terran btw. The thing is, TvZ is his best match up, while ZvT is my worst Unfortunately he didn't want to bet money, so we decided just bragging rights. This is important for me because if I can manage to take the series, it will give me confidence and bragging rights, and maybe I can kinda claim I should be at least plat??
The maps are (in order):
Shakuras Plateau
Scrap Station
Metapolis
Xel Naga Caverns
Delta Quadrant
He already has a psycological advantage, as he told me "I play a very weird style. Most zergs don't expect it." This has got me scared stiff, and only recently I learned that the main opening for zerg isn't 14 gas 14 pool, but 14 hatch. While 14 hatch would be good on shakuras, I'm considering going a safe 14 gas 14 pool cos of his apparently weird style.
Any advice? I think I should be able to get a advantage through vigorous preparation by searching builds and counters (I can't actually play though). Which builds should I use for which maps?
If this helps, he chose scrap station and Delta, and definitely didn't want steppes. Maybe his strat is some weird air rush or timing attack????
Thanks.
(He better not see this lol )
