My thoughts exactly. Especially for a phone call... wait until after you moron.

These are the most annoying people. I give people the benefit of the doubt usually for 30 sec or so and that's about it unless I hear a good reason

I always say pp before I even press pause. People always wait for me if I state the reason why (usually phone). Even up to five minutes was never a problem, as long as I said '5 min'.
I myself also demand a reason before I wait for someone. This is all BW though. I guess it's a pretty mature community

Just report them and ask for your points.

i think it's very bad manner to even ask for a pause.
the only times i have had to go do something else i've left the game (this is like 3 times only?)
i only have like 1 hour blocks max to spend playing BW, so the max i wait is 3 minutes. don't know how you guys have so much time to wait around on other people.

Earlier today I had the case of someone pausing the game as soon as it started. I asked him why he had it paused and he didn't respond. I gave him 10 seconds, counting down in chat, to say something about why it was paused before I unpaused. He didn't so I unpaused. He repaused and we went through the same situation. Afterwards he called me an asshole so I asked him why he paused. He said he had to feed his dog. tl;dr IF YOU HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES LINED UP DON'T START A FUCKING SC2 GAME THEN RAGE.

I'm really tired of people pausing games, even for legitimate reasons. I only have a short amount of time to play everyday, and I don't want to wait around for some guy to answer to the door to chat-up the Jehovah's witnesses or whomever is knocking at their door. It's rude and inconsiderate to be expecting someone to come to your house and play a game of StarCraft and expect the other person to patiently wait. The same goes for the phone, but you can easily hold the phone between your shoulder and head while you play Starcraft and talk.

If they don't give me a good reason, I countdown from 30 seconds until I unpause the game

Yeah, if you pause without giving a reason I'm going to unpause in 5 seconds. I've never unpaused when someone gave me a good reason though, but they never took longer than a minute or two, so I didn't really mind.

nobody is forced to accept a pause, the pauser needs to hope and ask for a pause, if the opponent doesn't want it's your problem.

Yes let me predict when someone will show up to my house so I don't have to play sc!
Anyway, it happened to me yesterday, I said pp, and pause, he does the old '?', by that time I'm out of my seat, assuming he'll allow 30 seconds or so, but he unpauses, I come back and actually end up winning, so I just had to be a little bm .

oh brother.
What is the person supposed to do? Let their dog go to the bathroom on their carpet instead of you just waiting for 20 secs so they can let the dog outside?
Is it so hard to just wait at most 2 minutes, is that such a big chunk out of everyones life?

True but its like saying you aren't forced to help a dying man on the street.

Was playing a 3v3 with 2 of my friends, one of my friends had somebody at the door and went AFK for like 3 minutes, this was at the VERY beginning of the game (Like they knocked when we were loading) we paused and asked if it was ok, they just kept unpausing the game. So we killed them basically 2v3. I hope they watch that replay and realize how badly they just got owned.

Am I the only one who things it's weird you can pause it, yet there is no minimum time? A pause should be able to last at least 30 seconds before they can force unpause it (or perhaps one cumulative minute for all your pauses).
Personally I'm patient with any pause up to about a minute. After that, unless they gave me a good reason and I'm in a very good mood, I give them about a 20 second warning, and then unpause. If you need to stop the game for more than 70 or 80 seconds, you should probably just quit.

But its a little more mannered if you do. If some1 pauses they have a reason for pausing. I don't understand how some1 could use the feature as a way of grieving...aren't they just ruining their own experience too? The only time I unpause instantly is when I'm clearly about to win, in which case yes they're doing it to be annoying. If its like the beginning of a game its pretty bm to unpause for some1. Just screams "desperate for ladder wins" to me, pretty pathetic. Its not bm because guess what? You pressed "find game", deal with the consequences.
You're telling me your schedule allows you to play a ladder game but at the same time it's too busy for you to wait 30 seconds for someone to answer a phone call? Sorry but you're full of shit.

Why should you assume that your opponent should have to wait for you, when you could just as easily let it go to voicemail?
better yet, let's compare this to sports, since everyone likes to go there with analogies and what not. Pick up 3 on 3 basketball game, your opponent wants you to stop for three minutes so he can take his daily phone call from his girlfriend. And you're supposed to be a jerkoff if you say fuck off and do it later?

Wow, I agree SO MUCH with that. I even get pissed of when some of my teamates (which i'm even talking to in Teamspeak) pause the game. I mean, some people don't have much time to play, and then, when they go to play their 3~4 matches of the day, someone pauses the game and stays 3 minutes out. Even with a good reason, I still think it is unfair.
That's why I personally never pause the game (unless it's something VERY minor, that won't take more than 10 seconds, but even that is pretty rare). I don't unpause when people pause the game because I try to mannered, but it's not I like it very much either.
If I have a reason to pause, I just leave the game. Who fuckin' cares about ladder points anyway?

You're offering a stupid example. Of course I'm not gonna wait for 3 minutes, but when I'm playing a casual game of basketball with friends and someone needs to tie his shoes yes, I'll wait 30 seconds for him to do so. No one is obligated to wait for some1 to pause but it's just a little nicer if you do. I mean really, its not even a minute. Its pretty arrogant to assume that much time will actually matter to you. You're playing a game that averages like 15 minutes anyway, what the extra 30 seconds worth. Absolutely no sacrifice on your part, while your opponent basically auto losses because you can't be bothered. Like I said you're not under any obligation to wait but it would make the world a little nicer and everyones gaming experience just a little better if you weren't a complete douche just cause you're allowed to be.

There are people who pause for all sorts of stupid reasons (to mess up your micro, to go look up their build order, to waste your time cause they know they lost, etc) but these are pretty rare and most of the time its just some1 who needs to do something small that doesn't last 20 seconds. Are you really saying you've had cases where you've had enough time to play just 1 ladder game but all of a sudden if that game lasts 30 seconds longer your whole schedule is messed up and you have no time for anything? Seriously?
