Irish Spring and Axe/Tag just don't cut it anymore. A long time ago I used to wear this cheap shit called 'Gravity' that my ex said smelled like cinnamon cookies (kinda not really does though lol) which was like 15$ a bottle and I had like 3 of because it's a little too overbearing and cheap smelling imo. So I gave them all to my mom's bf who wore the same shit.
Anyways, I know that the sense of smell is the most memory inducing sense of all the senses so I want to start smelling good and make good impressions on people (interviews) and girls (specifically my ex if/when the time comes to get back together).
I'm looking for something that isn't too strong, doesn't smell too musky/manly (like old spice or drakkar noir or whatever its called) but not too gay/metrosexual as to be a unisex cologne or feminine. I also don't want to be spending too much money on this as I'm not in a position to be throwing money around frivolously, so maybe like 50$ max on a good sized bottle that will last me 6 months or whatever. Oh, and it can't be the type of cologne that wears off after an hour or whatever. I want something that will stay on my clothes and me all day (but still not too strong!).
Also if you guys are into facts/tricks I read a while back that baby powder is the single most smell that turns on women because it envokes that baby factory thought, which in turn envokes sex, relationships, love etc.
PS - What do you guys wear?

Chick just msg'd me Acqua di GIO by giorgio armani...its the best and worth the $70...trust me...lol=) agree/disagree?

I generally wear 1 of 3 different colognes,
Sean John- Unforgivable Hugo Boss- Hugo Givenchy- Play
I like all three of them, and they all have different smells (for example the Givenchy is somewhat powdery smelling, while the unforgivable is a bit stronger)

Yea if you want to smell like every guido douche bag out there.
YSL and Channel makes some nice fragrances that are a little more unique. I have used Z Zegna and it was great, not to over powering but if someone got a little closer they could enjoy the smell.

Cost of those? Also is there some kind of technique to testing out colognes when I inevitably arrive at a JC Pennies or wherever? It can be pretty hard to get an accurate smelling when there is a heap of cologne around and you're rapid fire testing shit. Plus I have a pretty bad sense of smell to begin with.
btw, thanks for the suggestions. I will be making a list (and checking it twice).

SpoR all of those are around the 60 dollar range. Generally in the department stores they'll have a can of coffee beans for you to smell after each cologne, which essentially clears your nasal palette.

I remember when I went to a taste testing thing for Pacific Coolers, they had water and saltines for that.

Acqua di Gio is like the most used cologne by far.. but I still use it lol. Pretty much you won't smell unique, but it does smell great!

Wearing cologne is for girly-men.
You should stop showering and let women enjoy your true manly pheromone-laced odor.
+ Show Spoiler +There are lots of good ones out there, what you like is pretty subjective. Just don't put on too much otherwise you'll smell like a douchebag.

I can't believe that noone has suggested Sex Panther yet. They've done studies you know...

Armani Mania is a pretty good one. Same makers as Acqua di Gio but different smell. Curve is always really popular with the girls. I like Vera Wang because the smell stays around much longer and I like the manly smell, while others are more fruity smelling. I also have unforgiveable by sean john, which i never have used but i got it from a gay friend (i'm not gay) as a christmas gift. lol.

lol that's kind of weird if he gets something he likes guys to wear and you wear it around him. Maybe he was testing your attraction using some subtle gay trick.

burberry london is amazing. Dolce and gabonna masculine is pretty good as well.

I use the black elixir but the white is also very good. The people that work at Bath and Body Works always tend to be extremely helpful and they helped me find what type I was looking for. It's fairly strong but also lasts unlike a more water based cologne I formerly used that evaporated rather quickly.
I've heard nothing but good things about the smell, it's fairly cheap, and lasts a very long time!

Polo Black is pretty good
Armani Code might be *slightly* feminine, but it's fairly woody and musky
Aqua Di Gio is.... 10 years behind trend, but smells good
CK Obsession has a slight floral scent but I really like it; I think CK Eternity might fit your description better
I also remember trying some Burberry one with a black cover, and it was decent, but I don't remember its name.

Don't wear cologne. Cologne is for high schoolers, Eurotrash and male strippers.
Seriously.

I'm using Cool Water from Davidoff. my female friends love it and its pretty subtle, not as strong as those other commercial colognes that are trendy right now

Acqua is way, way overdone. Coolwater is very masculine, but it's also common and youthful. (Mostly worn by high school college students)
Looking for something truly masculine? Terre D'Hermes. Expensive? Yeah, but it's definitely worth being unique-smelling and manly as all fuck.
Cheaper but also manly as fuck would be Jean Paul Gaultier LE MAN. A little French and a little common, but has a slightly "offensive" (not literally offensive) punch.

Definitely not true. Like I said in the post, sense of smell is the greatest memory inducer. If you have a smell, people tend to remember you better and if they come across the smell again somewhere when you're not around they will think about you.
This also works Quite well against you, you always remember the smelly kid at the LAN,school, or work right? The one who gives you that 'run the fuck away' refleX, the one who doesn't even have the Common courtesy to wear deodorant or shower?
Thanks for more suggestions guys. I think I have too many now.

Smells definitely stick with you. To this day, if I get a hint of the perfume my ex wore constantly, it instantly reminds me of her.
I've tried some colognes from Adidas and Old Spice. Old Spice's original scent (I even think that's what it's called) is really overpowering, even in a tiny amount. I like Adidas' colognes.
Slightly on topic: When you use cologne, how much do you apply and where? I don't really use it so yeah. I've been told the neck and wrists are where you should apply it.

Well the problem with the neck is people kiss there, and it tastes like shit and doesn't easily rinse out. So back of the neck/collar area is where I put it. And then on chest of my shirt and forearms.

I have a high school friend who works in the perfume/cologne section at Nordstrom and she recommends YSL (Yves Saint Laurent Eau De Toilette), Chanel Platinum, and D&G The One. I think they fit your budget, but I think it's worth saving a bit more for them if they don't. I personally have the YSL cologne and I really do like it, although I've been using Bulgari Aqua more lately because it smells more manly :D

I'm really not trying to sound racist here, if everyone else in your group has the decency to shower then why don't you.
i really hate smelly people

This might be biased, but take it from me these things smell great I've had my share of girls sniffing me just coz they like the scent. No, I'm not exaggerating.

It must be a cultural/religious reason, or maybe it is actually a biological trait that many of them produce some extra musk. I used to ride the bus through Cal state long beach and yes I know exactly what you are talking about.
and shit, i literally filled an entire page with suggestions now. I hope It doesn't seem weird when I walk in there and pull it out and spend like 30 minutes smelling colognes and comparing prices.
btw, does anyone know if it's any cheaper to buy cologne someplace over another? Being that I'm really frugal, I might have some lady help me try all the stuff and then just leave and not buy anything and just research the cheapest place to buy it on the internet. lol

I'm using Bleu de Chanel right now. Costs about $60.00, it was something my gf picked up for me not too long ago. She used to work in a fragrance department of a store so she knows a thing or two. I really like it.
I had that same question for her, and she recommended buying a sample pack. It retails for the same price as a regular cologne and apart from having many mini bottles of the most popular colognes to sample from, it also usually has a pretty good coupon to buy the cologne of your choice. Just something you might be interested in asking about.

WINNAR. thnx everyone. I had waaay too many suggestions to even try out all the smells from 2 stores I went to. Just fyi, The ones I was debating were sean john unforgivable, nautica voyage, and a suggestion from one store which was Blu Alloy
Oil based scents are key. I hated all the alcohol ones
btw, I paid 64$ or something after tax for the 2.5 oz bottle

nice pick, Polo Black is definitely a very versatile cologne (for me at least) that I can wear to a lot of places.

Hugo Boss Orange, thanks me later.

sorry to bump this but Raii's post was fucking spot on. I literally got laid because of this scent. And have had tons of girls smelling me and complimenting me on my smell. Probably some of the best money I've spent in my life.
quotes from randoms: "You smell delicious!", "Is that you who smells amazing?", "I can't stop sniffing you."

True story. The only time I have gotten comments about my scent from women was while wearing polo black lol.
