It took me almost 2.5 years, but I made it to the 4 digit club. :D Relatively unscathed, I might add. No warnings or bans. Given how many warnings I see, and that I regularly check the automated banlist thread semi-frequently, I'm rather surprised. I think all of the threads I've started have been closed, though, and one of them was an opinion on the Jaedong vs. Flash finals where the power went out in the middle of an intense battle. I stopped posting on TL for about a month and resented Chill for a while after that, because I had spent quite a bit of time and effort making sure it was -- what I thought was -- a good thread.
+ Show Spoiler [NOTE] +This thread is not about bringing up those finals again, or my opinion, or your opinion. It's over with, and what's more is I don't even follow the Brood War scene anymore.
So here I sit, 3 or so years of TL under my belt, frustrated. Frustrated because I'm not doing anything for the community*. Frustrated because I'm in the center of mediocrity and don't have the mental fortitude do something about it. Frustrated that I can afford a coach to help me improve my play when I won't do it myself.
* I've coached a lot of newer players for free, as I'm only Diamond in SC2. I've brought a lot of people out of bronze to at least gold, and even 1 person from bronze -> diamond. But it gets old when so many of your students will just not play anymore.
I'm an avid viewer of the Day[9] dailies, and I just can't bring myself to go back and watch my replays and look for holes in my play, as he has taught so many of us to do. But more than that, contacting Sean is impossible without being in the "in" crowd, I guess. During his "State of the game address" he said he had so many ideas and not enough time to do all of them. Well DAMMIT, I WANT TO DO SOMETHING. I have the free time to accomplish something good for the Starcraft community, and for eSports as a whole, and what's more is I want to do it.
So, I suspect this is probably one of the angrier 1,000 posts thread you'll encounter, but it seems to be an unstated rule that you celebrate or rehash your accomplishments or post something useful like a guide after certain multiples of 1,000. Well, I'm more looking towards what I can do, rather than what I've done, because I don't feel as though I've done enough.

I think the comedy value of a mod ban on this post would be through the roof.
+ Show Spoiler +Congrats on the vulture dude. I feel the same way a lot of the time. I want to get involved but I don't really know what to do/how to get started.

I got banned twice since I'm around because sometimes they're trigger happy with censorship. You're lucky :>
It's hard to gauge as it seems to be random in some ways. Some people get away with extremely racist comments and others get banned or warned for being ever so slightly out of line, or cracking a joke in the wrong thread and stuff like that. Maybe you're just a saint!

Congratulations, I have managed to get where I am with only one warning so far, such a manner guy I am.

Hazzah! Nice post and congrats on the 1k. Also congrats on no bans or warnings

man...i feel like this is some sort of RP forum if you don't stay to da rules u get penalized

I used to get banned like every other week. -_-

Congratz on the vulture, my favorite unit to micro from BW which I can't believe they removed. I wouldn't be frustrated with not contributing to the community, being mannered and posting intelligent posts is a contribution in itself for how others interpret TL'ers and SC players. (Which sadly is not the case, to much trolling and childish bullshit like the picture thread) Personally thou I've never dared to start a thread or post a blog o_o, I guess I'm not into social networking, I'm comfortable being alone.

I agree with getting good, it takes a lot of effort :/. As a student, it's too much work to balance other things and getting good at Starcraft (well for me, there are lots of people who are smart enough to make it through), so I just play casually for the most part now. The only time I really focus on getting good is during breaks, when I can take a few days to sit down and really analyze stuff. But, boy does it ever pay off- a week and a half of intense BW over the last Christmas break and I came out understanding the game so much better. I guess I understand wanting a coach, it's much easier to just have someone tell you what you need to do to get better, even if all the resources are already there.

Without users no creaters. Don't feel bad.
And don't offer coaching unless the noobs asks you. I've given plenty of tips to people who don't listen in the first place.

Seeing all these people with high post counts makes me really jealous D:
Edit: A question not meant to derail the thread - how do these threads get into the blog section? ive always been wondering because theres no make new thread button in the blog section.
|
What you might not realise is you're contributing to the community just by being a part of it. The community needs active people that actually plays the and keeps it going.

If you go to the forum tab up at the top (just below the teamliquid logo), and hover your mouse over it, you'll see it pop-up a sub-menu, one of which contains "blogs". Click on that and there should be a button called "My Blogs" or "Create a blog" (not sure how it works because it's been a long time since I made my first blog). From there you should be able to set up your own blog and start posting new threads in this section.
And everyone else: it's not enough for me to just be "another member" contributing on the forums. I feel compelled to do more, but what that is I don't know. I just know that Starcraft has been a huge part of my life since it came out, and I want to be a [significant] part of it and the eSports scene flourishing.
