Hey TeamLiquid,
I wonder what sAviOr is doing now after the match fixing scandal? According to Wikipedia he is banned from all professional competitions now which means no more being as a progamer. Maybe anyone has some sources what he's doing now? Poker? Jail? Work? Military?
For those who doesn't know him(hello New SC2 community, some BW HistOry lessons here), he has been one of the greatest players in BW HistOry from ~2005-~2007. Sadly every Prime has an End and he got 3-0'ed by Bisu. Since then MJY couldn't win any more significant events except Blizzcon '08. Around april '10 he was involved in match fixing scandals just like other progamers like Luxury, Hwasin, YellOw[ArnC], go.go and some more.
for more information look these threads:
I would be grateful for more information about what those guys do now. I mean most of them won't have a proper education I guess... and now they can't be progamer anymore.
edit: TLPD is bugged for savior?

I too would be curious to know what he is up to. Wasn't he sentenced to like 18 months in jail?

About being banned from all professional competition, I think that's only for kespa leagues

Yes he was, but in Korea for an offense like that you can just do community service and probation instead of the jail time, which is what all of the progamers involved would be doing.

Wouldn't the match fixing scandal affect his future career?
I would be surprised if he finds some decent job.

Well I think his career in sports and media is pretty much done, but I think if he'd want to go law school or med school, or even get high up in some business(or start his own one?), he'd still have a decent shot at it.

In korea when you do something really embarassing or bad, people tend to go underground. Literally translated 'submerging', they keep to themselves and only keep in touch with family and closest of friends. Given his meteoric fall from grace, i wouldn't be surprised if he has done the same. We probably won't hear anything about this guy for a while longer. Anyways, i don't think he has a future in esports anymore so he'll probably just work on different things.

He's on a probation of sorts where if he doesn't screw up for like 18 months he's fine.
My guess is he's living a normal life, unrelated to video games.

Seems like this is what he's doing now. Well, let's see whether we hear from him in some months or probably years. MJY 'was' still one of my favorite progamers and I found it quite funny when the scandal came out. "I'll destroy everyone in 2009" becomes such another meaning haha.

Better make it a 2v2 leauge. How funny would it be if savior/go.go played hwasan/yarnc, with go.go and yarnc trying to win and savior and hwasan trying to lose.

It's not "just like." He played a huge role as one of the two progamer 'brokers' in it, and was responsible for 'recruiting' some of the other progamers into the whole scheme.

Not really curious about whereabouts of Ma-trash. Contrary to other players involved in scandal, there wasn't single redeeming quality about his participation. Had to post this since surprising number of players seem to feel sympathy.
Man, it feels like it happened such a long time ago but the event was felt uniformly by community as perfect betrayal at the time. Very emotional.

I'd feel more sympathy for some of the other progamers, but not Savior.
Like... how about Yellow? YellOw[ArnC] didn't throw a single match. He had denied the offer initially. It was found out that he had even told Justin not to get him involved in something like this again. He put a sincere apology up. He still lost his license.
Savior, on the other hand... He's the one who 'recommended' match-fixing to several other progamers. He denied everything at first, claiming that he had not directly approached any of the progamers but just casually suggested it and passed on information. He emphasized that he was not directly involved in the betting, which is why he got an extremely lenient punishment. Unlike the other progamers who had made one terrible mistake, he didn't put up an apology until two months later. He backstabbed his coach - the guy who trusted him until the end and ended up voluntarily resigning and quitting esports. This is the guy who used his own personal money to buy uniforms for his team, btw.+ Show Spoiler +Coach Cho Kyuu Nam: Savior plays well in practice, but he never performed when playing in actual games. He buys a lot of brand items nowadays, maybe his mental state isn't very healthy? I was thinking this when Investigators started investigating. When this happened, Savior went on his knees and said. "Coach, It's really not me. Please believe me" Savior who was already suffering from his lack of performance was also being swept by this... So I took him out of the roster, put him on a sick leave and told him to go home and rest. ON the internet, there are terrible people who are spreading rumors that Savior is the criminal. Those Fomos bastards even used Savior's silhouette on their pictures. Things died down when I told everyone that It is 100% not savior and that I will sue anyone who spreads rumors. When all of this is over, Savior will finally resurrect. Fighting. Where is there any possibility of redemption here?

Indeed, rich and famous but still wanted more, so tried to drag the sport that got him where he was down into the mud to get it. Truly deserving of sympathy. I think that's way over-simplification. Wasn't it found out that he was just a go between, not actually involved in rigging matches? Much more, players that were involved were begging him? After reading his interviews, I got the impression he had some kind of inferiority complex. He was always talking about how he wanted to be cool and especially in his interview with boxer, they both related to the nerd to famous impact on their lives. For a kid that age, hanging out in the wrong crowds might have seemed pretty cool. I mean how many people think it's cool that Rekrul plays poker with shady characters (though of course he does so for fun, not to take their money)? It seems to me Savior was a person desperate for approval, which fueled his desire to win, but also caused him to do things he really shouldn't.
Of course he shouldn't have done it. Of course players shouldn't have asked him to do it. But dangerous people can be very influencing on one's behaviour... You get involved with that kind of stuff, it's hard to get out, just like Jackie Chan in Shinjuku Incident ^^
I 100% agree with his ban from playing in the leagues. I'm one of his biggest fans and I really liked him and was affected emotionally by his games. Seeing him slump was really depressing. Seeing him win one game or show good play in a game he lost really got me excited. He was a good player, and nobody can deny that. I think he wasn't a bad person, which could be debated. I think punishing him as a deterrent to future players who might think about it is also important. I'm not a Crim major so I don't know how effective deterrents are in a situation like this (I guess they're probably useless, given the deterrent of being shunned was already obvious), but to do nothing would have at very least been even worse for the image of eSports. However, I think only a few months later, we've forgiven the scene and people know this is just something all sports go thru at some point on their way to becoming something monstrously popular.
edit: not to mention if anything caused his slump, don't you think it might have been guilt for what he'd done? Maybe, maybe not, but it's something that'd be really interesting to read about if it were the case A sort of moral tale about how doing bad things destroys one from the inside before you're even caught. So yeah, don't be so simple minded.

No sympathy at all, especially when he was already a star and making good money.
@Chef, when his claim that others asked him to do it is taken in isolation, perhaps one might believe it, but when combined with how he approached and reacted to the situation, I'm far more inclined to believe others' claims that he was the one who introduced the idea to players, rather than the other way around.

There's actually not enough evidence that he threw games. He organized it so that other players threw their games, but there's little, if any, evidence he threw his own games.
Also with respect to what Savior is up to -- from what I've heard around on the internet he's studying english to study abroad or something

I didn't mean he didn't throw any games, just the ones vs Bisu. Cuz if he did actually purposely go 0-3 that means he would've had a chance at winning if he had tried.

There's actually not enough evidence that he threw games. He organized it so that other players threw their games, but there's little, if any, evidence he threw his own games. Also with respect to what Savior is up to -- from what I've heard around on the internet he's studying english to study abroad or something Come to Canada so we can study togetherrrrrrrrrrrr!

Rereading this thread and feeling really depressed, I come across someone who clearly has no idea what he's talking about.
Just made me feel even more depressed x_x

Uh what, I said that Savior definitely didn't throw the msl finals against bisu. Do you think that he did?

To be fair, it was worded very confusingly.

Because after reading the savior fe article, I was browsing the blogs and saw that a mjy thread had come up. Curious, I went to the last page and saw the bump which explicitly quoted me.

It has been more than 10 years since saviour match fixing. Anyone knows about him nowadays?
