I Have some sort of a dilema here coming up. I'm 17 years old and I'm getting to know this great girl who just recently invited me to a new Years Party. I won't know anybody at this party except for her, I'm trying to convince a friend to come with me but to no success.
Basically, the party is for seniors (grade 12) and me and her are in Gr 11, but she knows alot more grade 12s than I do. I would really be angry at myself if I didn't go, but I've only been to a few parties during my High School years and I'm not very good with people I don't know very well.
Does anybody have any advice on how to approach parties with people you don't know?
And on another note, how does one get some alone time to talk to a girl at a party?

You only live life once, and honestly, what goes on during high school tends to not mean much later on in life. Which means.. go out and have fun! Use this one as a learning experience and try to be as social as you can, and aim for a good time. You've been invited to the party so you deserve to be there even if you're in the 11th grade, so don't feel like you're an odd one out or anything.

Not actually a troll question:
Will there be drinking involved? I've found that it tons easier to deal with strangers if they are preoccupied with ~serious business~ beer pong. Mostly because you won't have to deal with them.
Now, as for the second question, I apologize but can offer no good answer.

I don't even know the people that are hosting the party and bringing the booze, I'd feel like a dick If I drank too much though XD

I think they'll rather see you getting smashed and doing something hilarious than sitting there bored and killing the mood :p

My advice is to take this as an opportunity to network and socialize with new people. Parties like this are a great way to meet people and make new friends, which I'm guessing that girl is hoping you will do to some extent.
Whatever you do (if you do drink), don't drink too much, because that is one way to make a fool of yourself at parties. Besides, it's much more fun to be sober and see the funyn stuff that other drunk people do. =D

I know it seems like a big deal now but don't feel self conscious, just go and be nice and sociable.

Drinking in my personal experience makes things like this go well by allowing you to be more outgoing and also makes me more relaxed. To each his own though.
Just try and be yourself and act how you normally do but maybe more on the confident/outgoing side. Try not to be arrogant, but better arrogant than silent or shy. As far as the girl goes just act the way you usually do with her. It might be hard to get alone time with her I don't really have an specific advice.
Just try and have fun with it and go out of your comfort zone a little bit, you might be surprised the people you meet and have a fun time with it.

In my experience, drinking makes it infinitely easier to talk to people you don't know.
Not that it's mandatory though. If you'd prefer not to drink, still just try to be confident and social, you just have to do it without the help of alcohol. Like Hot Bid said, it's not really a big deal. People are never judging you as hard as you think they are.
As for getting her alone, I would say to just make sure you're standing next to her when midnight hits

Alcohol is definitely a good thing. But not because you can drink it. In fact, I'd strongly suggest drinking only enough to get a tiny buzz, especially if you want to get to know this girl at all.
Alcohol is the ultimate ice breaker for people at parties. It's like taking a smoke break. People who don't know each other at all instantly become friends in the presence of substances. Basically, just be cool, and stay pretty sober. Have fun!

Chances are you will be nervous and drink too much, so I recommend a big meal and an energy drink beforehand. The food slows how drunk you get, the caffeine counteracts a lot of the body drunk so you won't be falling/slurring/sleeping. You still get most of the brain drunk so you will be more open and relaxed, without being stupid and messy.

Yes, of course you should go! With alcohol involved you will be pretty sociable, along with everyone else.
edit: I'm not sure how much experience you have with alcohol, I would recommend somewhere in the range of 3-5 beers. You probably don't want to drink any more than that. If they are having drinking games definitely get in on them, the games are usually really stupid, but as you get drunk they become super fun lol- they are also a great ice-breaker.

Don't cling to her, start talking to as many people as possible as soon as you get there. The longer you wait, the harder it gets. Being outgoing and sociable isn't hard at all, just go there with the intention of getting to know as many people as possible.

alcohol is awesome for cracking you open (and the ladies, haha). It becomes a lot easier to mix in with random people, and if you throw drinking games in there, everyone becomes best friends. If you wanna be alone with a girl at a party, you can always abduct her. Prob frowned upon though...
You can also say it's too loud and ask to go somewhere quieter with her.

If the girl has good manners, she'll introduce her friends to you and them bam! Just ask questions- I guess some could be about their future plans, new years resolutions haha, stuff like that. Don't be too curious though! GL HG GG NO RE
