I just thought I'd post about this since I am so excited for this.

I've always(for a long time anyways) been interested in Japan. The language, the culture, everything.

Anyways, I have an uncle who's married to a Japanese woman. They live here in Sweden but they go and visit Japan a couple of times each year. They're going for two weeks in mars and they asked me to come with them.

It feels so great because one of my biggest mistakes in my life(so far) has been to turn down the invitation to come to their wedding in Japan 4-5 years ago(I was 12-13 and the 13 hour flight was very discouraging)

The financial bit will be solved and everything looks to be set and I'm so happy. It's also a very good timing since I am going to do a big Japanese exam in school so I can skip an entire year of it(Why? If I read two courses of Japanese(1 year each) I get bonus points on my grades). This exam will probably be a couple of weeks after I get home from Japan.,

So right now I am studying Japanese like crazy. I got tons of material to use like video lessons and audio lessons as well as several text books. I can already read all hiragana and write most of it as well as some basic words and grammar.

Nice dude, learning Japanese is definitely fun, it only gets hard when you have to learn hundreds of Kanji...

Make sure to post pictures from your trip!

Nice one. I live out here in Osaka atm doing a 1 year university exchange. Lot of things are different from Europe, but it's not as alien as you'd think. As long as you don't come over thinking it's anime/manga land. A lot of people do that and go home disappointed. It's just a country like every other one, it has its good and bad points.

I'd concentrate on getting Hiragana and Katakana down fully, then working on basic grammar and vocab.
Kanji aren't as bad as some people will claim, yes there's 2000 odd of them to learn but that covers everything, the most common ones are much less.

Good luck man.

I'm Chinese and Kanji isn't too bad o.o don't be discouraged! It's just an issue of memorization, which anyone can do if they have enough time. I think the hardest part about Japanese is uchi & soto and honorifics T_T I can't figure out whether I'm ageru/kureru/morau'ing someone before I seem quiet for too long.

Let's Learn Japanese set of video lessons is rather good even though its old it really good introduction and the video+repetition makes things stick in the mind.

Which video/audio lessons are you using out of interest?

Try Anki flashcards also. Its a really good program for memorizing things like words/letters.
