So today I started out my first game against a Protoss. I normally don't have too much trouble with the protoss at my level, although I'm sure that this one could have been executed better on his part.
Summary:
I started out going for a 1/1/1 with banshee harass with the plan later to transition to MMM+Thor/Viking. I get hit fairly early by my reckoning by a smallish Void Ray rush. I manage to survive the VR's and come back for the win.
Pro's that I see: -I don't believe that I completely panic overreacted when the Void rays came. -I took that opportunity to expand knowing he had busted some resources getting those starports and rays up. -I sent the smallish push back over to attempt to contain him from taking his natural. -I kept the banshee harass up.
Cons: -I shouldn't have lost that banshee, if I had been paying a bit better attention I could have kept it up for another round. -I didn't keep the mineral levels down enough, I'm sure I missed my macro somewhere, more than likely during a battle of some sort.

Lots of things to consider here.
After you scout him, do you see a second gas go down after the cyber core? If so that gives you some indication that he isnt going for FE and is going for some tech build.
In my experience after a banshee is out and cloak on the way, you head to his mineral line. Try to pick off as many probes as you can. Then when the void ray arrives, you immediately cancel production of any banshees and start building vikings.
Remember that 1 viking can out micro a void ray forever provided it isnt charged.
Provided you keep killing probes with your banshee, no matter how much damage your base takes he wont be able to rebuild probes and obs, so eventually you win.

Thank you for the reply! I've been thinking I need to get the banshee over there a bit faster, so I've started nixing so many marauders in favor of more marines once the starport goes down. I'm starting to get a bit better with tvt as well with that, it seems like any time I knock off a few probes/scv's with the banshee I'm safe to expand.

Another one from today. TvT, usually my roughest matchup, I'm not sure what to do with the banshee harass once turrets are built. I typically just cut it completely switch to medevac and once I get the third I'm considering using the battle cruisers in combination with thors. The only thing that worries me about the cruisers is they're so slow!
