Hello teamliquid! It's done, this full length is finally done, and I want you all to hear it. Over the past month and a half, my life has changed so much and so has my music both for the better I believe. This album that you are going to hear and download, this isn't just my music, this is me. If you've ever wanted to know me more intimately, even though we are all just nerds, this is the best way. Everything you hear on this album was made up on the spot. When I felt sad, I recorded a sad piece from what I felt, when I was lonely, I recorded how I felt, likewise with happiness, anger, and every emotion I've felt. This album helped me discover myself even more than I already have. I've learned so much over just the past two months. Many times during a rain storm I'd sit and play and just start crying over the beautiful sound that my fingertips were creating and many times I would hit record and just play for hours with the recording button on, only to crash my entire computer and rage with frustration. This record also challenged me to be better. I wasn't good enough to play what I felt when I started, and I still am not. There are several mistakes I left in this record because I want it to be raw and visceral. Nobody is perfect, and neither is this album. Lastly, if you are going to listen to this album, I genuinely request you listen from start to finish and stick with me through the happy times, the sad times, the uplifting moments, the tragedies, the love, but mainly, the times that show us we are human. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate you listening to it. And please dont hesitate to spread this album to anyone and everyone if you enjoy it. I’m looking forward to hearing your reviews over this album. Thank you again, be safe this winter, and here’s to a good future teamliquid!

I'm bad at receiving compliments so, thank you! Like i've told everyone else. Yes, I played all of the piano and it is all improvised, the violins and cellos are improvised as well, yet played on my keyboard.

I would say this belongs more in blogs (most people post them there anyway), but this is so good that it deserves to be shared with everyone. Nice job! I need more calm/relaxing/focus-inducing music like this! ^^

The way you describe the creative process behind writing your music makes me really happy for some reason. ;p This is what really makes music stand out as an art-form. Thanks a lot. Sample was great, can't wait to listen to the rest.
Just got done listening to your entire album, and it was beautiful. I'm not saying that to make you feel good, so you don't need to thank me. I'm just genuinely impressed and hope you keep making music and posting it here!
Let me first say that I'm an enthousiast when it comes to music, especially instrumental music. I'm a film maker and I've won several awards for my films, most often winning for best sound so I work with sound and music differently than most people, especially instrumental music. I don't mean to brag, just to let you know about my background/competence for this review of your work.
Now the difference between "good" instrumental music and this is the fact that good instrumental music just sounds sweet. What your stuff does better and what lifts it from good to great/awesome is the fact that you seem to convey emotions and tell stories with these tracks.
The stories as well as the titles you've chosen for the tracks makes me wonder (and that's a good thing). In your "special thanks" the name Chloe Jennings stands out making me wonder who she is, if she's the one the tracks and album title is about and that gives the music a metaphysical level.
Great work with this. It is some of the best debut work I've seen from a solo artist that's not studio recorded.
Definitely not the type of music I was expecting but it was a plenty surprised. Just listened to the New Beginnings and I have to say it was very relaxing to listen to. Definitely downloading to hear the rest of the album!
first off, i need to say this is not really my genre (i'm a complete house-freak). that being said, this is amazing music dude, you are really talented. i was really moved by all songs which is quite an accomplishment for some-one who never listens (nor really likes) this kind of music . tnx for sharing this with us go zach
I'm gonna give the album a download, the first track was pretty good. I need more relaxing/minimalist/mellow out music haha, my taste is kind've eclectic and I need more stuff like this to balance out my library . (That prolly doesn't make much sense to anyone, but oh well!)
So yeah, great job, it's really nice, I can just close my eyes and slip away into it, it's that awesome! :p
Just want to give a simple thanks. I appreciate the fact that you're willing to share yourself with the community through your music in ways that we can understand but not necessarily have the words to describe. =D Will be looking forward to your work in the future.

That's actually kind've funny, cause those were the two genres of music I was actually talking about haha. I've been listening to a lot of Between the Buried and Me recently, and wanted something nice and soft to contrast with it when I'm in the mood, so once again, thanks, and great album!
You did the record I meant to do this year, but never could because of all the shit & the shit & all the other millions shits. My Favourite album of 2010. Please keep making music.
Thank you for sharing your creations with TL.net. It takes big balls to bring your masterpiece to the internet. I respect that and thoroughly enjoy your talented music. I really really hope in the future someone will pick up one of your tracks for a movie of some sort. It doesn't even have to be a drama. I can see New Beginnings playing while showing some sort of WW2 battle or a panaramic view of destruction (natural, war, or otherwise).
I have always wanted to play the Violin and hearing it done so magically in addition to the cello and piano has inspired me. I usually only listen to Alternative Rock but I am downloading the album right now. I can imagine myself with my feet up, puffin on a gram blunt and just getting lost in your music. Please don't stop writing.

Heyy, took a listen to the first song, and thought it was pretty good! Congrats for the dedication that it must've taken to finish the whole thing.
Here's a personal feedback if you don't mind: (This is all from the first song: New Beginning)
1. Pianists tend to play around the general tempo and I definitely heard that here. Not really a bad thing, but when you do that, you're taking the listener and trying to place that individual into your shoes, and when the listener can't really relate to the emotions you're trying to convey in that song, it's a bit awkward. Again, not a bad thing though.
2. I like the simplicity of it. Woooooo
3. I thought the note progressions from 1:20 to 1:26 didn't really fit. Also, rhythmically on the same section, I think it would've been better to continue with a whole followed up with eights.

Thanks for the constructive criticism! I would just like to stress this entire CD is improvised and not precomposed.

nice. always makes me happy to see what people can accomplish! i listened to a couple songs and really liked them. Really great to see you accomplish a true dream of yours and wish you the utmost success in your future!
I just listened to the first track, really like it man, god job. You said that all of these tracks came from you just sitting down and playing how you felt at a given time. Well i dabble with the piano allot and just kind of play how im feeling as well. Some times I start out writing some really good stuff, but since im just playing out a certain mood, it is always fleeting just like my mood. I start of with something great, but if i take a break and come back, the mood is gone and i cant finish the song. So i have a ton of half finished songs haha. Did you have this problem at all as well?

Thanks, man! Not exactly, the first rule of composition is never leave things unfinished, even if you have ass it, and with my improvs I can can improvise till it's done.
I've made a lot of music in my life, not just for piano. I am mainly a percussionist but I also dabble in guitar, bass, piano, vio, cello, trumpet, sax, mallets, trombone, tuba, etc. I used to have trouble finishing things though when I wrote a lot of electronic music. If you have any work i'd love to hear it sometime

Thanks man, and yeah, haha, I'm pretty musically diverse. I mainly write electronic music, but listen to progressive metal and idm?
my comments 1) all songs were good (tension and wintersleep were my favorites) would like to have more songs mixed in that share the same feeling or tempo 2)all songs felt like (to me) that they shared a same emotion (DISCLAIMER* i did only listen through one full time and will listen through again to see if i feel differently after*)
ALL IN ALL you did a great job hope to hear more from you soon :D
Very nice, dude. I listened from start to finish. It captures a nice ambient quality. No melodies stick out but its like listening to pure mood. I prefer more melody-focused music personally, but it was very well done. It reminds me of some of Jon Schmidt's slower pieces (one of my favorite pianists) . It's doubly impressive since it was all improvised.
Just curious, how did record it? I play piano too, but I've never been able to get a good sound, because I only know how to work with the simplest of midi. Tech wise I'm clueless
I'm kind of into this kind of instrumental music and I can say that you did a wonderful job, I can feel the flow of music from one track to another. A very nice debut work, I can say, keep at it, hope you can give us more beautiful music in the future. P/s: Maybe you should change the title, I didn't expect a Cd of instrumental music when I read it, a little bit confused for me
I'm glad I let my curiosity got the best of me and download your work. I honestly didn't know what to expect, and I didn't expect much. I added your first track to iTunes to see if I should delete the CD now or later. It only took a few seconds of listening for me to love it. The raw emotion of it is beautiful and powerful. I could feel it in every keystroke. This takes me far from the comfort zone of what I usually listen to, but I can't get enough. Amazing talent, man.
Really enjoyed the few songs I have listened to. Gonna absorb it in its entirety later tonight, but I really liked what I heard. To this point, I agree that it could make an excellent soundtrack as others have said, but I feel when each is viewed in relation to its title, they work as standalone pieces too. I found myself drawing from my experiences of those few words from within my own life, and reminiscing strongly.

First off, thank you so much for downloading and listening. And, I do plan on making more music like this in the future, and a longer release for really cheap.
Second, that's alright. It's all up to interpretation, but when I actually conceived the idea for this album, I planned on doing 10 tracks named after emotions and my interpretation of them. I didn't do that because I didn't want to force emotion that I wasn't feeling. Hope you continue to like it!

Thank you so much man, that's just what I wanted to do! I've never heard of Jon Schmidt, I will check him out however. The only pianist I really listen to is Ludovico Einaudi, people often times tell me my phrasing and voicing is similar to his (but less elegant because he is brilllllliant).
For this record I used my Yamaha KX88 and Native Instrument's Akoustic Piano, I have more software then what I know what to do with, but really, that .vst is probably the best sounding VST i've ever heard and it's becoming an industry standard. but to fully get a good sound, you need a large USB Keyboard like my Yamaha, 88 keys, 127 velocity sensitivity, real hammers and action. Great investment.

Great investment.
mmmmmmmm. LOVE Ludovico Einaudi. And yes, you should definitley check out Jon Schmidt. "All of me" is an epic song, although hardly your style. I used to play it till everyone I knew was sick of it, lol. But he has a lot of great stuff with a different style. Also try David Nevue, who has a pretty simplistic style. Also try some Chopin. Nocturne in C sharp minor. Ahhhhh. Also Nocturne op. 9 no. 2. My favorites. :-D Greatest piano music ever, although Debussy might be more of your style.

Cool, thanks for the tip! I'll check out that software. I use a Yamaha Portable Grand YPG-635 that hooks up with USB, what I lack is (expertise) on the software side.
This is absolutely worth a bump. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I am 1) a shameless forum lurker and 2) not musically talented myself, but the whole album was truly a joy to listen to.
Going into it, I admit that my mindset was "well, I need some background music to study to for my finals, I'll arbitrarily download this and try it." However, I would frequently find myself not really studying but just listening to the album, so I eventually had to put everything aside and give the music my full attention until I had satisfactorily listened to it in its entirety. Again, though I love music, I am no musician--but to my untrained ears this album sounds like the work of quite a talented pianist. I especially liked the songs "Tension," "Chloe I," and "Chloe II."
Been spamming it to lots of friends and family, and a lot of people end up downloading it for themselves!
It's good stuff. First four tracks flow together really well, basically after that I was hooked into listening to the rest. All of it is fantastic. Looking forward to more stuff!

I hope you release more music in the future.
Thank you so much man, I can't express to you how good it makes me feel to hear all of that. It's weird getting all of this positive feedback. I'm just a 19 year old kid living in a town of 5,000 in Indiana. I had no idea so many people would have such good feedback, thank you man.

Awesome work
That's great to hear! I hope it helps you focus. Thank you for the kind words.

Thank you again man, that's the best thing you could possibly do, share, share, and share. That's so good to hear. I will definitely release more soon! Maybe a follow up 60:00-80:00 minute CD for like $4.

I searched for this thread as I remembered listening to the sample tracks a couple of days ago, surprised it hasnt been discussed for a few days, as I really believe more content like this should be shared with the TL community.
Listening to it as I prepare for exams, it's very soothing and reminds me of autumn, not entirely sure why either..

Thanks bud! I wish it could get featured
Excellent. I feel it goes well with winter, personally. My next album like this is going to have a winter theme.
1. I want everyone to know how sometimes, TL is not just for Starcraft and its Drunk Thread, people make lives and friends off of this site. xLethargicax is just one of those people.
2. Is it possible to get the sheet music for this? Specifically the Colors to Chloe one.

I'm listening to it right now, and I'm on to Colors. Campfire didn't really do anything for me, but Chloe I, Chloe II and Colors are beautiful, man.
Might I ask what some of your inspirations were behind this? I think my guess could be smack-on, but it's a pretty unknown artist, so I'd like to hear what you have to say first.

Thank you so much man, I don't think most of you understand how good this made/makes me feel. It's an unexplainable feeling thinking someone out there in the world is listening to what I made. It gives me chills.
I don't have sheet music for any of them, but if you are really interested in it, I can transcribe it for you. All of the tracks on this CD where completely improvised on the spot, so I just have to ear it out which wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks again.

Thank you. Well, originally I intended for the album to be called Emotions and Chloe and every track, spare the Chloe tracks, were to be an improvisation of an emotion. A literal translation of feelings into the music the best I could do.
Instead, I sat the girl down, Chloe, and I improvised my tracks for her, live and recorded them. Other than that, my general inspiration comes from the universe, biology, and emotion.
JUST started playing the album, brb I'll share my opinion after, but first 30 second impression is very positive! don't let me down now! i got really hyped by seeing all the positive comments
