NOTICE: If by chance a mod is reading this, could you fix the typo in the title? It's supposed to be "Neptune's Pride", not "Neptun's". Thanks!
---------
Greetings. This blog is an attempt at creating a gathering place for the participants of the NP game "Theta Kaus", which is currently being played exclusively by TL members. Of course everyone is welcome to read and comment along.
The blog is a work in progress. If you find mistakes or have suggestions for improvements, please tell me.
For those who have no idea what Neptun's Pride is: It's a multiplayer, browser-based 4x game (think Civilization, Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion etc.). It's stripped to the bare minimum of combat, technology and diplomacy, which only makes it more intriguing. If you'd like to read more, the following links may help you.

While our game may be full (each game only supports a maximum of 8 players), free games go up regularly and the NP thread here on TL is pretty active at the moment. It should be doable to organize another TL-exclusive round, and in the meantime, free games are there to practice .

I got the same error when trying to play
Edit: IT WORKS NOW :D:D:D
Double edit: Eww it costs 20$ to play.

Risen, just join a free game (like all of us did) It doesn't cost money if you do that lol
|
This is awesome. I wish I was battling with TL people though
|
Eyedrinker is responding to every diplomatic message I send him with "WORT WORT WORT"
|
Fabianooo!! Just go to the Neptune Pride topic and try to join a game with some guys! I can still join another one.
Update: The game is starting to get scary, I've received this answer from the OctopusFromSpace Alien: WORT WORT WORT. So I fear the worst for the south side of the galaxy :O.
|
How do you get a far viewed image of the map?
|
Eyedrinker scares me.

He is attacking me =D gonna be fun game <33
|
Today marked the first (? - I think so) battle of our galaxy, albeit an unintentional one. Both Brownbear and me had a fleet en route to the same star, but his happened to arrive earlier than mine. Embassies from both parties assure that this was only a misunderstanding, no official investigation will be launched and peace remains between the parties (for the time being).
Also, the neutral stars are slowly being occupied and only small amounts of available space remain.
|
Uh hello, I would never attack you dearest ally kefif. Were you too preoccupied with throwing me under the bus to remember that you invited me over for tea? You should really help me get that Ragnarock jerk off my lawn though. I'll give you a call later. <3
EDIT: OH I SEE NOW IT'S A POLISH INVASION REQUESTING IMMEDIATE BACKUP
|
I have to say guys, even though I don't have much time to play with you, it's been a pleasure so far.
Also I've been thinking lately how to be a jerk in this game and came with an idea: start researching weapon upgrade, stop it right before hitting next level (so it's like 599/600) and switch tech. Then when you're attacking other guy research last point right before attacking his stars for a bonus surprise effect.

This is a really cool idea. Gotta remember that.
I'm looking forward to what the next week will bring. Shouldn't be too long before the first real clashes occur, considering how few planets are left.
|
I updated the participants list in the OP to make it look less clunky.
Another day has passed and more stars have been taken. It appears as if Eyedrinker has taken a system off kefif in the lower left of the galaxy - what mischief might our mysterious co-inhabitant be up to?
|
Has anyone else been spending time naming their fleets hilarious names? Here's a few of mine:
The Party Bus Hive Fleet Penetrator Cuntrags Anonymous His Noodly Appendage FriendShip
|
I didn't even know fleets could be renamed. Nice feature.
Not much happened today. It appears that kefif managed to take back the planet Eyedrinker conquered yesterday.
|
I'll be on a business trip for the next week (in Poland ). I'll still be able to play, but I won't have enough time to update this blog with maps and recent developments. Feel free to document what's going on in our little galaxy!
|
Perfect I'll aid you with that.
And the battle has begun!!! This is getting reaaally complicated to deal with, I think I'll have to bring my notebook over to everywhere I go.
|
I have to say the map starts to look more and more like a one giant clusterfuck. I love it.
|
map update.

yellow getting destroyed by purple ( it looks like that for me) and green is dead already.
|
I read that let's play you linked in the OP:
+ Show Spoiler +So disappointing that in the end the last 4 players just get bored and quit.
|

Yeah, it was a gamble. It was the last day of my business trip and I wasn't able to check back into the game until today, so I just tried something wacky, hoping it would work. Apparently it didn't ^^.

Another two days have passed and, sadly, I believe my stay with NP has come to an end. I didn't have much time since sunday due to work and trying out Battlefield: BC2, and unfortunately, only logging in 1-2 times a days means you might as well stop playing. That's not the only reason, though.
What really upset me was the manner the game and player relations developed after the first few days. Sure, we all played to win from the very first minute, but I had hoped for some more communication, maybe even some more RP. Anything that would make it a better experience than other browser games with a similar theme. Sadly, the atmosphere of friendly rivalry only lasted for the first two days, then it went downhill really, really fast. After the first week it basically felt like playing SC2 with B.Net 0.2: You see what the other people are doing, you watch their profiles, but you're not communicating anymore.
The random starting positions aren't that much fun either. Someone luckily starting with many, easily available starts to build up economy and industry will quickly have an advantage that other players locked in between non-afk opponents will never catch up with. Our TL game wasn't that bad in that regard (though not perfect), but another free game I played was horrible because of that.
I had hoped for more, considering that, after all, it was a TL only game and we had such a motivated start. At least Brownbear retained his humour even after my desperate all-in attack .
|
Maybe it's because I don't know the game, but I had no idea wtf was going on. Poor spectator game imo (runs away)
