I've had the Xtrac Hammer mousepad for years and years. But its textured surface had finally been ground down to be completely smooth right in the center of the pad which caused my MX 1000 to lose tracking completely over those areas.
So I bit the bullet and ordered a Steelseries QCK+ cos I thought I might as well as I found it really cheap. Thinking I would be throwing my beloved Xtrac away I thought maybe I could roughen it up to be usable with standard mice in the rest of the house.
I got some very rough sandpaper and tried to press the grind into the pad but this proved to much effect and barely any indentation into the strong plastic surface. So I just sanded it in random directions as roughly and hap-hazardly as I could and even took a sharp knife and ran that across it in random directions.
I thought the loss of tracking was a combination of having dropped my mouse so many times as well as the pad but my mouse is tracking just like the day I got it and the xtrac pad.
I really dunno what i'm gonna end up doing with the QCK+ now. I'll try it out and see if its better or worse or at least more comfortable on my wrist.
How would one clean a QCK+? Cos I know over time cloth pads tend to get dirty? Is it washable or just limited life cos I don't fancy a dirty pad in a few months time.
At the very least I don't have to keep wondering which mouse to upgrade to in a hurry.
