Greetings fellow TL-ers!
I'm on a quest for improving my game as a zerg player. Given I have more time now to play the game frequently, I thought I would share with all of you my experiences as I go for Diamond. However, it takes a village to raise a child, and I figured with the help of the community here I could reach my goal a little faster.
It's a mutual relationship: I get constructive criticism from you guys while you guys get supplied noobish games!
The way it works: Each day I will play three ranked matches and supply them on here. If I do any practice matches with friends that I feel should be posted I will post them here as well, but three ranked matches a day will be a good pace for me.
Overall - My macro could really use a boost in efficiency. I feel I'm making drones ok, but it's the lack of spending that's giving me trouble.
Starting Rank: 115 pt Bronze (59/100)
Current Rank: 164 pt Bronze (52/100)

Thoughts + Show Spoiler + This game was a weird one for me. This guy built two cybernetic cores but didn't issue any upgrades. He also built two stargates but didn't make anything out of them.
I believe my scouting the stargate was too late. I didn't have my lair beginning to morph until I saw the stargate up. I made the attack when I did because I knew that by the time hydras were out he would have had a lot more air units, so harassing was the only option I deemed would work.
However, you'll see in the replay that he only had a couple of units and a few cannons here and there, which made the victory easy to pick up.
Thoughts + Show Spoiler + This game I feel I did the best in. It turned out mostly to be a macro versus turtle game. Three bases to his two let me get more income at a higher rate, and although my macro still blows, it let me get more units out at a faster rate than he could.
However, his cloaked banshees really threw me for a loop. I remember seeing a blip on the minimap for a sec, heading towards my natural. I attempted to follow with a muta to check it out but I couldn't find his units. Banshees didn't even cross my mind until they attacked. Thankfully I managed to hold it off with a morphed overseer and mutas.
I don't know if he was trying to turtle or he felt he was being contained. I felt my worker harass would keep him more on the defensive while I got more workers to get more economy with.
Thoughts + Show Spoiler + My first encounter with BM had me raging a lot harder than I should have, so please excuse my delaying the game as much as I could.
I thought I did alright. Kept him contained and did some fun harass with the supply depots. I think the main issue was that I was too aggressive. Rather than attacking more I probably should have expanded and gotten a better economy. Once he moved out I didn't have enough forces to counter his counter-attack.
Honestly, this game put such a bad taste in my mouth I can't really watch it without getting worked up, so I'll probably need the most help identifying issues with this game the most.
I appreciate any help you can supply. I figured this would be a fun project to work on and involve everyone here with. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

w00t for zerg players :D I will watch the replays and give you feedback in a bit.

Good luck man! Before you know it you'll be better than me! And by that I mean like a day or two. Just learn a BO and you'll get to silver.
Learn how to execute that BO and you're in gold/platinum.
Learn how to adapt that BO and you're in diamond!

I'll give you advice I guess. Macro. Macro macro macro macro macro macro macro macro that's absolutely all there is to it. Once you focus on consistently droning and expanding then anything below diamond (yes even plat) will be a joke to you. I got to diamond in about 5 days and 60 games without knowing any build orders or specific unit combos, just a vague idea of what to get in each matchup. All I had to do was rely on my brood war mechanics and just remember to constantly spend larva

This.
I watched your last replay and your macro was lacking. You lost both your hatches at the 20 minute mark but you had enough money to rebuild them 20 times all over the map. If all that money had been units you'd rolled his one base play easily. If you feel uncomfortable getting a third hatch at an expansion, get an extra inbase hatch instead. Spend that money!

One giant thing I noticed...........
OMFG rally points!!!!!!!! lol they are your friends, you have a rally point that is specifically for drones, click hatchery then right click a mineral patch. Whenever you build drones they will automatically go mine. Click Hatchery and right click anywhere on the ground, rally point for all other units! :D
Also, macro! Just build guys all the time! Use spawn larva a lot! ANd just pump out units as much as possible. Build more hatcheries if you don't have enough larva. If you focus purely on building units and not on attack you can win! :D You didn't build a single unit the entire time the mutalisks were attacking his base, which was a fantastic attack, but you should have been making stuff back home when it happened (I'm talking about Game 3)

Thanks guys, I'll try all these out next chance I get. More than likely I'll focus more on just making sure my resource count stays low all the time.

OH YEAH BABY !!! MY influence reached ALL THE WAY through TL users who are new to the game, and more people are blogging their way to the D (I'm not saying that I'm the first person doing this around here, but i didn't see people blogging their road to the D, after I blogged my first part, another person blogged his placement matches, some more people started doing this kind of stuff etc.).
You play Zerg ha, good choice man, really. I hope you climb thru the ladder as fast as possible. Good Luck!!!

I thought this was a minecraft thread

How often are you watching zerg streams?
Watching featured zerg streamers play will make you improve so quickly.
I also advise watching the day9 daily when he does coverage on zerg.
Remember, zerg has the highest mechanic requirement. Be sure to spawn larvae as soon as you can. It's not something you just do when you remember. It's something that you do or you lose instantly.
Spawn larvae.
Spawn larvae.
Spawn larvae.
Spawn larvae.
Spawn larvae.
Spawn larvae.
I'm not kidding. Get that down as quickly as you can.

GL man, I think I might do my own but a transition from to or cause I'm in plat already. It all hinges on the result of GSL3 no toss in Ro4 = I switch to T or Z
|
From Bronze it is a long way to Diamond :p.
The thing you need is practice, with practice you will get in plat without problems. From plat to diam you might need some tricks. But everything before is just the plain basics of the game witch you learn with practice.
Any way gl & hf.

#1 most important, don't miss larvae injects, and spend your money. Don't worry about battles, don't do anything until your money is spent. If you can't spend it fast enough, make more hatcheries/queens, and don't miss larvae injects. #2 most important, make overlords ahead of time so you don't get supply blocked #3 most important, keep a scouting zergling near his base so you can see if he's attacking you. If he's not attacking you, make drones. #4 most important, try to figure out what units he is going for ahead of time so you know what units you need to make, and how many drones you can get away with. If he's teching, you can generally make more drones, if he's rushing, make less drones more army. #5 Welcome to diamond, where all you have to do to get there is have some of the basics down reasonably well.
