Thinking about studying Korean in Seoul

Studying Korean in Seoul has been something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I've wanted to learn a third language for a while now and with me becoming a huge StarCraft nerd with the release of SC2, Korean feels like a better choice than Japanese since StarCraft BW or 2 isn't going away any time soon.

The only annoyance is that I'm not eligible to attend university because of the way Swedish upper secondary schools let you graduate regardless of academic performance, so I'll have to make up for that during the '11/'12 year.

When I'm done with that I'm thinking about applying for some university in Seoul and study Korean there during the '12/'13 year (or how long it'll take for me to be able to hold a conversation). I would assume that at least someone here has studied Korean in Seoul and I was wondering if you could share some of your experiences and how much it cost to live there while you were studying.

you can likely find scholarships lying around somewhere just like you can for Japanese

Studying at a university is probably best, you get to meet people while studying korean.
Your korean wont improve unless you have korean friends, even better if you get a Korean GF imo.
Once you get the basic fundamentals its easier to learn from friends than in class.

I heard Sogang university is quite popular and focuses on daily conversation instead of academic stuff. Other than the big universities there are language centers that offer classes as well.

Thats funny, I've joined a Korean class in Canada, i want to teach English in Korea for a while. To get closer to the starcraft scene and to meet the interesting people there\have an adventure.

I want to be a writer but I need something to write about. (thats why writers are always crazy bad-ass dudes who do all sorts of shit)

Um, have you considered going to a uni at home and doing a student exchange? Or do you want to become an actual translator and take Korean hardcore?

I don't want to live in Sweden, which is why I want to study abroad. I don't want to spend my entire life speaking Swedish. I'm not necessarily going to take Korean hardcore, but I'd love to study Korean for a year or two so I can learn to read, speak and write as well as make lots of friends who actually are Korean and keep up the contact with them after I leave to study psychology at some American university so I don't lose the language.

If I study at a Swedish university I won't bother speaking Korean because I can just speak Swedish instead. If I study in Korea I'll actually interact with Koreans and I'll have to speak Korean.
