http://www.amazon.com/Paleo-Solution-Original-Human-Diet/dp/0982565844 Just a suggestion, this may actually help you with your disease. I bought this book about a month ago and read it through and it mentions alot of stuff similar to what you are going through, although i forget the details by now since it doesnt apply to me. Still might be worth checking out.
Also, if you are going to exercise I would suggest doing some kind of weight training as well as cardio, for maximum weight losing capabilities.

That being said its going to be even more of an uphill battle than what weight loss usually is. It IS manageable though, and I would first recommend that you start exercising. I am aware that you don't have much interest in physical activity, but you will NEED to create that interest. Working out isn't just for burning weight, it is part of the overall function of being healthy. You WILL NOT be able to manage your weight without working out and just making yourself eat 1200 calories. It just isn't gonna happen.
Here would be the first basic steps to start:
-Check out the TL community weight loss thread, Great starter
-START. WORKING. OUT. It doesn't have to be lifting, just go out and do something. Get an ipod and run around listening to trance or something. Anything that makes you burn calories and increase metabolism is good. Working out is the key to weight loss, you will start seeing magically awesome things happen if you follow a nice workout routine.
-Stop drinking soda and sugary drinks. Drink water, juices (not sugary ones), etc. Just completely cut soda from your diet. I quit soda a while ago and now it tastes like ass to me. Its very easy to avoid it.
-Confidence. Start to realize that your physical appearance is not everything, and you bring your own personality and skillset to the table. Stop defining yourself as someone who is fat, and instead define yourself by what you do and what you are good at/like. Your depression will only hurt you, so I would definitely start doing things that are related to self actualization (working out will make you feel great by the way).
But good luck dude, if you take anything from my post its to start a nice workout program that you enjoy and can do daily. Also, it does take alot of balls to type that out, even here on the internet. your weight isn't everything, you obviously are a pretty awesome person if you can be sincere like that.
Rofl first you say that you understand his conditions and then throw some bullcrap advice at him which he probably already knows or shouldn't do. You know that ppl who are that much overweight should avoid running and just walk longer/faster, ride a bike or swim. I haven't had sodas for years and for months I have only lived on water and low carb food(no junk carbs) but even for person without insulin hyper-secretion this eating style hasn't had much of an effect. For normal person losing weight is easy: spend more calories than you eat but normal person's body consumes a lot less from his food.

I'm a little skeptical of the paleo diet. I got pretty interested a month ago and started doing research and it was looking pretty good... Until there was a new scientific breakthrough like a week ago.
The researchers said: 'European Paleolithic populations are generally considered to have been predominantly carnivorous, because the evidence for plant subsistence is limited. 'We are now able to add evidence for plant food processing, on the basis of the recovery of flour residues on coarse heavy-duty tools across Europe up to 30,000 years ago. 'The flour would have undergone a multistep processing involving root peeling, drying and finally grinding using specific tools. After this, the flour needed to be cooked to obtain a suitable and digestible food. 'Studies of current human diets suggest cooking is essential because raw food, as such, cannot supply sufficient calories.' The findings are published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1321844/Stone-Age-man-ate-bread-just-meat.html#ixzz13MFJZaXU
EDIT: just search caveman bread or something similar on google news to find more info.

It's a vicious cycle.
I have a friend who is an extremely attractive girl. She works out all the time, she eats fairly healthy and has an active life style. However despite her she cannot stop from having a belly. Now she is by no means overweight but she certainly has a belly. Tone arms/legs/rest of body but a round saggy belly. Very odd yeah?
Her problem grows when she is feeling down. Not necessarily because of her belly or body image (like I said she is very good looking) but when she is happy (seeing a guy or excited about some trip etc) she loses all her weight and looks amazingly better.
This story may have little or nothing to do with you but I feel it is important to share... do the best you can to keep your chin up! Be happy. If exercise is hard/boring walk more.. listen to music while you do it. Shoot hoops. Kick a ball around. Just be active and do something you find fun. Aside from that set goals that are obtainable. Do you love soda? cut soda out for a month. After that cut soda + sweets etc... setting realistic goals that are obtainable is key.
You are not going to die in 5 years from obesity. So don't try and solve the problem ASAP. Instead make it a project. Your own genes have decided to make this challenging. Embrace the challenge and do the best you can to remain positive and go after obtainable goals.
If you need any moral support or have any Q's please PM me.
GL!

I read that link and judging by one of the first comments, along with my own intuition, it looks like BS from the daily mail, misinterpreting the study. Id like to read the actual study but unforunately cant find it atm :/

Ever tried shot put? Maybe you'd be good at it, I dunno but the main reason I ask is because if you join track&field, they usually make you run (less than the track athletes, but moreso than your average person). You don't have to make varsity or anything, just show up to practice everyday and it's good exercise.

I feel you man, I was 265 myself for a good while, been working out for a while now and managed to get to 240 and even a small change like that helps a lot, and im gonna get the rest of it off. Its just incredible how different you feel about yourself when you are pleased with your looks, or at least know you are making a effort and producing even the tiniest results and just moving forwards, so try to keep that in mind. I realize its hard for you because of your illness but try to get some exercise at least every 2 days, when I first started 6 months ago I couldnt do a single push up, not even lift myself up from the ground, now I can do 30 with proper form and it sure feels good, and to be able to feel muscles you didnt even know you had in your body, and in general feel more powerful and healthy is worth going for. For food I realized that every meal I eat could literally be halved, eaten slower, and I might feel a bit hungry after im done, but 20 minutes later and im filled up. I never really had problems cutting out sweets or soda because my parents dont keep that in the house anyways, but try to at least for a start switch some of your soda with lemon water or a good cup of tea.
All in all just keep in there, set small goals at first, and when you reach them you will feel great, with time they will compound and you will see results for sure, everyday just think of what you want, the person you want to be, and keep motivated. If you need some advice or support PM me and il try my best to help.

Errr... Insulin hyper-secretion = exercise. Your doctor should have told you this already, i mean - it's essential for your survival in whatever shape or form you carry it out. Your knees probably can't deal with running yet so i would suggest getting an exercise bike for home usage.
|
Exercise dude. Do the math. You can eat 1600 calories a day if you burn 400. Being very overweight, a normal work out will burn hundreds and hundreds of calories for you. More likely if you work out an hour a day you could eat 1800 or 2000 calories.
|
sounds you are at ultra high risk for developing diabetes have you tried a low carb diet? do you get hypoglycemic if you don't eat carbs?
|
I know its probably been suggested before, but a simple weightlifting routine might do you a lot of good. Doing a decent squat, bench and deadlift should be possible for someone who is 330lbs, and will probably be quite effective in increasing the amount you can eat per day without gaining fat. Not entirely sure how insulin hyper-secretion works, but your body should put at least some calories into repairing and building muscle before turning to fat. Plus its decent cardio as well.
Good luck, and just btw your post didn't seem at all like a whine

i guess most of the people have a problem with takign that first step towards losing weight, especially when it comes to sports. if it helps you, i used to be a little tubby myself. mostly cause i ate the wrong stuff. when i was in the armed service i started working out in the gym there just for fun but when i got out and started studying i also took up a membership in a gym and went there with a friend for the first year. now the gym is not so well-suited to losing body fat as cardio is but it really got me into the right mindset. from there on i started jogging a lot more and also went back to swimming. before i knew it i had lost 45 pounds over the course of maybe half a year, that was also due to the change in my diet. as i said i got into the whole mindset of not only low-carb, lots of protein meaning no bread, rice, pasta and the likes and of course no candy or chips. i ate lots and lots of meat (mostly poultry) fish, fruit and vegetables but also the unwillingness to lose the gains i had made in the gym by eating a bunch of junkfood again.
what im trying to say is maybe you should start going to the gym and start working out there. this step is usually very easy to take as its not so demanding on your discipline since you wont have to do an hour of running or so. from there on try to get yourself into the right mindset of eating healthy and exercising regularly. maybe this helps you maybe it wont but then im just some german goi :-P
best of luck to you!

Pardon my ignorance, but what does "insulin hyper-secretion" do to you exactly? Is this still a problem if you manage to burn off more calories than you consume?
I was a little overweight back in grade 11, and I lost about 20 pounds in 4 months (from 180 -> 160 @ 5'11) by just getting up and jog for an hour before school and stopping intake of junk food and soda. It wasn't particularly difficult as far as I remember.
Weightlifting is also a great way to increase your metabolism.

Being fat is not the worse thing that can happened to you. You will power can change that. Just dont eat when you're not hungry, and find some cool sport to do( go to 6.40 feet 311 pounds to 255 pounds in 2 month, by just going to swimming pool 2 * 1hour per week. ). Also trust me , being fat is way way better than get a disease ( got heavy kidney one, that's sooo annoying).

I actually read the whole thing top to bottom... and I really don't know what to say...
Although I personally don't find fat people disgusting.
