A friend of mine just got the game, and we've been doing a lot of 2v2. Good lord! We have like a 50% win record in bronze. Granted, my team mate just started playing the game, but I would have though a ~1200 diamond and a sentient human would be gold at least. His macro is... poor... (he's a very-ex-WC3 player) so he focuses on his base and just rallies all his troops to my army, which makes it hard to dart in and out with attacks.
I also tried 3v3, which was a disaster. With some of these 3-island maps, it seems destined that the defender must lose a 3v1, 3v2 at the best. So I guess you just have to make sure to be the first to attack, or else have massive base-trades. I don't get it one bit.

play 4v4 then go quad 6-pool then see how long it takes til you get your quad-6pool against another quad 6-pool and post that on TL.net so all can enjoy the might of the zergling xD

TEAM JESUS!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BTW
3v3/4v4 is all about cheeeeesuuuu

You gotta cheese. 6pool and proxy barracks cant lose!

your placement in 1v1 affects team games(and vice versa), so it's probably harder than if you just started on a fresh account.

I started playing 2v2 with a friend who has never really played RTS multiplayer. Early on, it was terrible- he wouldn't wallin properly despite that being the first thing I taught him, he couldn't macro to save his life (he couldn't even send his scvs to the minerals in a timely fashion) and he didn't seem to be absorbing anything I said at all.
At some point, maybe 20 games in, his macro got substantially better and he started making decisions that would help win games if he hadn't made them. I still have to bark out orders constantly, because he has almost no big picture game sense at all, but he's improved a lot. We're 24-11 in gold division, and we beat diamonds/platinums fairly regularly. So don't lose hope completely... just yell at him constantly while reinforcing good behavior.
Edit: Also, what race are you two playing? I found it's really difficult to win games as Terran 1v2 (especially since I had to constantly give instructions on what to do). As Protoss, I could macro up and usually smash the other team while my partner was still learning the ropes. Protoss macro being easier makes it easier to coordinate too, against more evenly matched opponents. Zerg is just really rough when your partner isn't that good, because you don't have much of an opportunity to macro up without dying. On the other hand, Terran is a little easier for a beginner, I think. He can accomplish more without having to macro quite as much.

It's never hard when you got Jesus!
....wait

"Jesus team games are hard" That's why there is only one set of foot prints.
Team games are pretty random. Havent done much arranged though, but for random team it balances out in the long run. Managed to get diamond in 3s, despite some awful awful allies, statistically they will end up on the other team at some point. Patience is required though hehe.
I guess for arranged team, you gotta start working on the weakest link hehe. That must sting to stay at bronze, if your normally diamond.

yeah, it really feels like I need a whole different strategy... all of my timings for macroing, expanding, attacking... all wrong wrong wrong...
|
2v2 has to be difficult when youre playing against jesus and god
|
You can't FE or anything in team games because there are simply more units that they can throw at your expansion. Team games are all about unit composition. Things like Roach/Stalker are extremely strong against non-terran teams, reaper/zergling rush is totally win, Terran needs to defend zergs against void ray all-ins, mass phoenix is amazing vs. more than one zerg, etc., etc.

Its only hard because you are overthinking it, trying to use 1v1 strats and playing safe/teching/expoing. You cant do any of this in 2v2, because:
a. you are never safe from a double team b. you can't use specialized units because you'll be raped by the player you arent countering
SOB3K's 2V2 GUIDE:
1. ling/reaper allin cheese
or
2. Spam MnM
2v2 is fucking retarded once you figure it out.

share control at the beginning of game. You set the rallies

Oh!!! He meant, "Jesus, team games are hard!" I was searching through the thread trying to figure out wtf the "jesus team" was.
