Mr.Madkipz`s Zerg version of: Refining a build
Matchup: ZvT
Begin with a plan and aim at the theoretical optimum.
I want to defend with speed zerglings early on, i want to use mutalisks and then i want to nydus the guys base while takin a third expansion. Then i want to get hive, some infestors and mainly focus on Ultralisks.
List out the first move into the midgame:
I want to get a flock of about 12 mutalisks of 2 base What this means is I will aim to have 12 mutalisks and keep the mutalisk numbers around 10-12. I know that it takes 10 mutalisks 3 swipes to kill a turret, 12 well leave me with some leeway and it has the damage to pick off units if microed properly.
Then list out the positives with this move as well as the intended follow-up supporting it:
Pins the Terran back and delays these more beastly timing pushes, can snipe tanks, can cause havoc in peoples mineral lines if they suck and do not opt for turrets. Forces good players to make turrets as defence before they move out.
Later down the line once they start dwindling in numbers or usefulness and I have somehow managed to survive all terran one base pushes, or if its largely mech with hellion based harassment I intend to use mutalisk as mobile spotters to throw down nydus worms in his base before whipping back to harass his expansions.
Because the mutalisk can pick off outlying spotter structures like supply depos it makes sense to have a nydusworm based follow-up because even if the opponent is good he is likely to have not remade those structures at a vonureable location.
Find a suitable opening.
I will do a twist of the 13 refinery 14 pool style. Take my guys off gas after getting enough for metabolic boost instantly queue both that and a Queen when spawning pool finishes, to prepare for extensive midgame production.
I will make an in base hatchery at 20 food and grab my expo at 30 food when zergling speed is done and production really start to kick in. This hatchery also frees the single queen to do tumors instead of larvae vomits.
When my queen is finished at around the 4 minute mark I shall put guys back in gas.
With the first larvae vomit pops i will add a batch of 12 speed zerglings that will end up finishing at around 05:20 ingame seconds, With these I will take map control against any sort of hellion based opener allowing me to take my natural expansion without too much hazzle.
Take my second gas right at a 100 gas as I start my lair and then prepare a double gas that will finish right when my expo finishes.
By extensive testing at the subject exactly 9 in game minute mark, if I have not used any gas at anything else and I have the supply to do so I will have 6 mutalisks in que and be near 50 foods unless zerglings have died. Interesting to note is that if I delay my spire until expansion pops prepare overlords for a giant leap forward in supply I can have exactly 12 mutalisks in production at the 10 minute mark. Fast Banshees and Thor rush are too much of a threat to consider waiting that long but it was still interesting to note.
Smooth out bumps
. Outside of killing my own units I followed day9s reasoning’s and musings from the 170 daily. Using Yabot I spammed games for 2 hours until a reasonable standard appeared.
What maps you intend to use this build on? Preferably large distances like cross positions metalopolis
What deviations will you have to make?
Obviously anything reaper or bio based will force me to deviate by quite, quite a bit. However by opening 14 pool, anything outside of 6-9 rax reaper will be facing an angry queen and by sending a drone on 14 to scout the front of my opponents base as I make my pool and saccing an overlord at the appropriate timing I will be quite certain whether I can get away with what i have or not.
Remember to keep simple notes with long term planning ahead and ask questions to yourself that relate to how the build feels and take note of building timings. Note down what you loose against and then start planning out your series of responses or counters.
I still need to figure out a way to fit in upgrades.
Thank you day9. I am now a better player.
