Who is anticipating a big surprise by current progamers switching to sc2 scene? To be honest, this game has a lot of potential (sc2) but I think there is a lack of talent in the field as of now. Foreigners often come up with cutesy little builds that are viable for temporary amount of time, but it's progamers in Korea that are capable of making a build/micromanagement that is solid throughout entire game. I personally think given that top 200 Kespa ranked sc:bw players switch to sc2, they will make up at least 60% of the top 200 list in Korea/world. Their talent is simply too overwhelming.
I think time for foreigners to shine in GSL is NOW. Idra or TLO sure stands out, but I honestly think he will have no chance when any of top 100 ranked Kespa player transitions to sc2 (with exception to fail toss, jangminchul). I almost felt SO happy when I heard some guy named HolyCheck that may either be NADA or BOXER kept winning in Kisado KOTH and the news said that he employed mind-blowing strategies that mirror many aspects of brood war days builds. Those are the faces that I am anticipating to see. Right now, it simply is too painful to watch with amateurs just taking advantage of over poweredness of each race. It's hard to see creativity that can be only sprung from the cream of the crop.
For now, all we can do is patiently wait for bw scene to die. Then Flash and Jaedong will take over, once again. =)

NO!!! I want the BW scene to stay forever. I hope to god that that SC1 lives forever, because it is a way better spectator sport. I admit that SC2 is a more fun to play, I hardly play BW anymore, but its really not that interesting to watch. Whenever I watch a BW game, I can sense the tension between the teams, and all the practice they had, but I just don't get that feeling in BW. And the commentators for SC1 were way better, especially if you know Korean. But yes, if the BW players did switch, then they would own everyone. There would still be a Taekbangleessang. But I really want SC1 to continue, there's just so much drama and so many exciting game, that SC2 just simply cannot produce

oh god this is going to get messy. you're intentionally flamebaiting, right?

I'm deeply annoyed by the assumption of inevitability. It'd be a complete waste of talent if the top BW players suddenly switched for "potential".

No, SC2 has a big potential to fail and has already flopped in Korea. Especially when Blizzard has 100% control on the SC2 e-sports scene that they can shut it down any time they want to promote a new product. If BW were to shut down any time soon, great players like Jaedong and Flash will spend their time to study for a better future now that they've already loaded their bank full of cash from BW, rather than wasting their life on "potential", chasing after "potential" tournament prizes that will surely seize to exist immediately when Blizzard decides to release a new game.
|
Why would they switch? BW is still a much more entertaining game to watch, and there is still more money in BW, not to mention security. Plus, given Blizzard's current behavior in regards to trying to kill off BW, who's to say they won't do the exact same thing once they decide to make SC3?

Incoming SC2 vs BW thread >.<

meh so much enthusiasm for a boring subject. but a blog is a blog. i hope boxer will be back.

I'm still enjoying BW... but I watch mainly SC2 because I'm more interesting/attached to the players, being a good deal of foreigners in the pro scene. SC2 has a ways to go before it becomes the esport that BW is.

Lets hope this doesn't happen.

Think about the incentives for a current BW pro in favor of switching vs staying.
Staying in BW: - get paid a regular salary - have your housing, food, utilities, and other living expenses also taken care of - someone cooks for you - have the opportunity to participate in two different individual leagues with some great prizes attached
Playing SC2: - have the opportunity to participate in ONE individual league with some great prizes attached (a bit bigger than the BW individual league prizes!)
Yeah...I think it's pretty clear which path is more attractive. It's those who are in danger of losing the benefits of being a BW pro that switch over - players whose contracts are about to expire and aren't likely to be renewed, for example.
BTW, please title your threads more descriptively.

what i dont like its that you disrespect 11 years of bw history that made sc2 have the impact it has today. Learn more about bw instead of paciently waiting it to die.. dont be stupid and respect a bit more.

I am not necessarily excited yet about mass transfer. If after a couple move over and really evolve or dominate the game, then I'll be all excited. So far, while old BW'ers have had good success, it hasnt been mind blowing. Injecting more good players is always good, but not "big anticipation" stuff. Not to mention it adversely affects BW etc
I am keenly interested in the July/Nada/boxer move, and I'll see from the results of that whether I'll getting all hot and bothered over more top pros coming over.

BoxeR + SC2 would be so baller, I mean none of his shortcomings in BW would show in SC2 . Also Nukes are somewhat viable

I really don't understand why so many people on this forum worship Koreans. People act like the reason Koreans are good is because they are Korean, It has nothing to do with the long hours practice every day for several years.
I do believe that Korean culture is more supportive of gamers. They are the equivalent of sports icons and there is a lot more emphasis on practice in Korea then I have seen in the west.
Right now I think that if there was a Flash or Jaedong vs TLO match in SC2 TLO would crush them, because he has put in the practice time. If they did transfer and started practicing SC2 I belive that it would be even for the short term, and in the longterm impossible to predict with out seeing how these particular BW pros transition to SC2.

Yea this is a good post. It's again the displacement of responsibility. Let's wait for _someone_ else do it.
Impossible is only impossible until someone does it, then everyone starts doing it and it's in the repertory.
