Hello all,
My name is Rob Janssens, and I'm currently a player in Trackmania for a team called LowLandLions.
Now I know this site is for SC/SC2 players (I've played sc a bit but i'm not that good in RTS ) but I was more looking for general advice!
As you all know, you have to practice to be good in a game. Any game, it doesn't matter if it's easy as fuck, you have to practise it to be the best.
But where to get the motivation after 2 and half years of non stop playing? According to some stats I already played a good 1000-1100 hours in my game.
Althought I have the ability to go outside the country for lans, I still don't have that motivation I had in the past, when people called me a young talent, and somehow I think I reached my skill cap? Althought I don't believe in it.
Like for example, TM doesn't have a matchsystem like SC, that's why we have public (rounds, to get consisten) servers and private servers.
Althought I hate to play online (chatting, getting distracted, crashing a lot) a lot of people recommend me to this, but I can't stay on a server for like half an hour without pushing myself to it, just because I find it boring. I rather prefer to practise a bit alone , but nobody would recommend that
Do I really have reached my skillcap, or am I maybe bored because I have nothing to learn? Since most tracks are mostly the same and you already know how to take "new corners" well.
(Also I have this strange thing I want to play an other game all the time) Greets Rob
Shoutout to Nemesis! :D

I don't know much about this game but how do you normally practice if you aren't playing online? Online imo is the best way to reach out to the top players in your game, and although you don't like doing so as much I think you should really try it. Get motivated by watching the best of the best play, and try to play with them as much as you can. If you don't have any interest in doing so then maybe the game isn't right for you (Even though you've put in so much time already)

1100 hours over 2.5 years is about 1.1 hours a day. That is not much. However, you are playing a racing game. I think a good way to motivate yourself would be to play an adequately challenging game. Since you can read and write, I think a game like starcraft would be more challenging for you than a racing game.
Oh, sc2 just released. Maybe that's something for you?

hehe
@nrg : Maybe that's true, but i'm going to search some servers with lesser people on, since 15 cars on your screen is madness
@Navane : I always used to play 1 hour a day, because I practised a lot solo, since we don't have a matchsystem and you can't always go to a public server at the start( training maps 1 per 1 to get a good "lin") is neccesary.
I don't know about SC2, I was never good in WC3. The only thing I have in RTS that I can pay attention to some stuff (like multitasking). That's it :D (Also SC/SC2 is out for a good 10 years, and trying to get good in it would cost me another 2 years =.=)

so you're another one of these people who have unlearned casual gaming :D you don't need to be good in sc2, you can play it just to have something different than only trackmania. Any other game does just as well for that job, although i'd advise against the common addiction games like world of warcraft, because they are addiction games :p

why do you want to play trackmania more? It seems like you are really bored of it from your post, why not just move on. Are you getting anything of value from it?

Well when I'm still quite good on Belgian level at lans (some prizes = cash) and I'm not so long in LLL. I just can't seem to say: I'm done with it.

btw, why would you guys recommend to play another game (on decent level) beside your favorite/esports game?

Start smoking weed, helps the motivation tons.
If you're bored of the game, play another one, or do something in real life that you find compelling. Nothing anyone can tell you in this blog is going to motivate you to play a game that you don't have fun doing anymore.
One of the reasons that SCBW was so great is that even after years and years and years of playing it, it still remained fresh and new for many of us.
