I started playing SC2 3 days ago, mainly because I was dealing with RSI since February of this year. I put so much pressure on myself to become good in BW that it caused me to have all sorts of problems.
I only reached C- after 3 years of playing BW, yeah that aint much so I said to myself back then, maybe SC2 will be my chance, its a new game a fresh start everyone has a chance to try and aim for the top. My recovery from RSI is on a good route and thus I am in a condition to be able to play SC2 well.
I got thrown in gold the first day and on the 3rd day I finally got to diamond. You see for me, the ladder is the only thing I can do, other than maybe the weekly ESL cups. I am from Bahrain, which has such a limited SC scene its not even funny, heck the whole middle east doesnt have that many players, and most of them are pretty damn bad. I only have 2 other people around here to play with competitively and practice but other than that its very very limited. all PC cafes have CS1.6, WoW, and Dota and thats it. Just a year ago I started seeing gaming tournaments getting taken abit seriously and getting better sponsors but eh its still nothing compared to the rest of the world.
So from what I have been reading and looking around, it seems that the ladder is sort of a joke. Most top players ladder for practice and not take it seriously, and really whatever your diamond rank is its not that significant to your skill level as then are great gold and platinum players and retarded diamond players who cheese their way through and dont put any thought into the game, just win win win.
There arent many teams or clans out there because it just started, and really very limited ways for nonamers to make a name.
So what do I do then? Do I keep laddering? Do I start looking for tournaments? I dont get what am I supposed to do exactly. If laddering means nothing , then whats the alternative?

mass ladder, as u rank up 1000+ u will get better quality games and maybe make some practice partners out of it too

I suggest finding some players around your level and playing custom games. It's a lot beter than laddering when you obs others play or when others obs you and tell you something about your mistakes. You will improve faster definitely than if you ladder.Use the tl practice finder thread I guess.

Middle East has its own server ?
Get an Euro or US key if you have some extra money :/

Yeah you are very clever that you can see this but i think if you look a bit deeper into it you will se that you have only saw the tip of the iceberg - if you people in Bahrain use such expression? o.0
Anyways its not only the ladder that is a joke. Its the entire game. sc2 is a joke.
What do you do now? - i suggest since you have just been exposed to a joke, you start laughing. Its the most polite thing to do.

I think you're taking what you've read about ladder in the wrong way. Sure, in diamond there are lots of bad players and cheesers, but it will take a lot of skill to actually make it to the very top of the EU ladder, and if you can compete with the players at the top, then you should have a decent shot at tournament success.

I agree that under 1000 points there is a lot of cheese and allin play. But: when you get above 1000 you will meet more and more quality players.

I don't really agree. It depends how the magical blizzard matchmaking system rates you.I for example am like 350 points in plat(don't play much) but my last games are vs people who the weakest guy is 700 points in diamond and I know guys who have a lot of points yet they play weak players. It really all just comes down to luck what kind of players you face in ladder. There are people who aren't high rated but never cheese as well.

The EU servers really good. Alternatively befriend players (top pros) who want people to test builds with and then you get to play them too and learn.
Btw incontrol went to teach some people in Dubai maybe you can find out details?
When I was in Kuwait I remember there being 3 or 4 very good 2v2 players and one guy who used to play 1v1. Might be good to find out in some Kuwaiti forum perhaps.

Yup, right when you hit 1000 points, your personal matchmaking algorithm gets recoded so that you only are matched up with players who have zero sub-10 minute games. Isn't that nifty?
