I've been searching for good rap and I think I found him. His name's Shad or Shad K.
So Shad (Kabango)is a Christian rapper that doesn't shove, as Bob Marley would say "this holy Armageddon" message, down your throat. He rather brings up social justice issues and with his self-deprecating lyrics he separates himself from other rappers of our time.
I guess I am bringing this up because I think he is one of the best rappers around and he isn't known. So here are a couple of his credentials (if you care about those): He won the 91.5 The Beat's Rhythm of the Future talent competition, used that money to support his own album, and then got onto Black Box Recordings, a Canadian record company.
Oh did I mention he's Canadian. Woops.
Anywho, he has three albums out and all I can say is that his songs are deep--really deep. His one song "I'll Never Understand" is about his parents and how they dealt with the Rwandan genocide when they were there.
Another song I'd recommend is Rose Garden, which is about taking the hits when you can because life isn't going to hand you everything on a silver platter.
The last song I'm recommending is "A Good Name" which is all about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego which is a totally sick rap. It's about these three guys who stand up for what they believe in and venture into fire and aren't afraid.
Hope this helps,
