My Fix For Performance Issues (NVIDIA)

I've been killing myself trying to figure out why I wasn't getting uber performance. Since my 470 GTX should be fine, I've been blaming my core i5.. playing with overclocks and such..

Anyway, going into my Nvidia control-panel, opening up Starcraft II and selecting "Prefer maximum performance" for power management mode made my performance INFINITELY better.

I guess for some reason Nvidia software thinks Starcraft II isn't important and runs the card slowly. Ugh.

Edit: Ah seems like CPU is still screwing me over. Core-i5 doesnt have enough performance on 2 of its cores for SC II. Lowering effects and physics quality gives me a big performance boost under lots of action.

Please up your multicore Blizzard.

I'm guessing this is only relevant to the geforce400 series? I have a gtx285, and sc2 is already running everything max and smooth, and i don't see any performance preference setting in my nvidia control panel.

Game is very CPU-intensive... and obnoxiously only dual-threaded.

Been dropping as low as 30 FPS in some of the larger singleplayer games.

And yeah below 60 is garbage for me in a competitive game, trying to figure out how to get that nice and stable.

(and yeah I get 150 FPS at the start of games looking at probes if my frameratecap is off

)

Yeah the multithreading is absolute garbage in starcraft II so far, hopefully they will improve it in the future. Effects/3d portraits/Physics are all things to turn down if you like having good performance.
