So about 6 months ago after the acquisition of a new guitar I played the shit out of it for a few days. After a while I noticed that the second joint of my pinky (fretting hand) would click every time I bent it. This problem doesn't occur when the pinky is close to the ring finger, only when I angle it outwards away from my ring finger - so pretty much only when I am playing guitar.
The day I noticed it I went to a nearby clinic where the doctor told me it was harmless and just try not playing guitar for awhile to see if it goes away. This was a pretty depressing development as I had taken a pretty length break from playing and was excited to be back on the wagon but I didn't want it to get any worse so took a break for about 3-4 months. I had been playing before on and off for a few years with no problems at all.
A few months later I still have the click in my pinky but as its not painful I play on, but it is pretty distracting. I showed it to my regular physician during a routine checkup and he pretty much echos the first doctor and tells me its just something that I'm stuck with and to just deal with it unless it gets worse.
I've been playing off and on since then, but it does bother me to the extent that I don't really want to play that much for fear of making it worse. A few simple google searches turns up things like trigger finger and its variations but I don't have anything that extreme, its just a discomforting click that only occurs when I bend my pinky while its stretched away from my other fingers.
Anyways the reason I bring this up is that I'm hoping someone has some experience with this or has any information because I have the sudden urge to get my guitar fiend on \,,/

The joint in my thumb has been clicking for at least 10 years already. In the beginning it clicked only when when I stretched it completely. Maybe 3 years ago, it started clicking every single time I bend or stretch my thumb. The noise it made has become far quieter over the years. I never felt any pain in my thumb and never went to the doctors because of this. Maybe, I should have though... I guess I'll find out in a few years...
That's my personal experience, but your doctor probably knows better.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, and I'm fairly positive there's nothing you can do to fix it. It has to do with the way the tendon curves over the bones.
None of my fingers "click," but I have other joints that do strange things like it. But like I said, don't worry about it unless it does get worse. Don't preempt the getting worse part. If your stomach burned like fire when you ate, I'd say go to the doctor immediately. This, on the other hand (haha  ), could be nothing more than what those people have that we call "double jointed."
Does it happen with the other hand? More accurately, can you get it to happen with the other hand? If so, I'd definitely say don't worry about it.

Almost all the joints in my hands/feet click on occasion. It's just the way it is. As far as I know it's not actually problematic, just stretch frequently and try to stay relaxed in long playing sessions (I'm a guitarist I know how it gets).

i have a weird pinky thing when i play, it almost feels as if i force the pinky to bend and it gets stuck there. it happened a lot in the beginning, but it doesn't really happen anymore unless i'm really working it. my high school guitar teacher said that it was just a muscle building thing. idk, mine's fine now, if you feel pain you should stop, but if it just feels unusual, try playing through it for a while. and like someone said above, play relaxed.

Happens to both of my thumbs and I'm pretty sure I'm fine 
Also hooray for wikipedia explaining why it feels good when you crack your back slightly when it's feeling a bit stiff.

its not lupus!!! i have finger clicks also its not a real problem it´s just a bit annoying.

It does occur in the pinky of my other hand, but it's much less noticeable. If it clicks too much in a short period of time it does get a bit sore, and the fact that I tend to click it more often when I start thinking about it doesn't help.

I don't have this problem but a friend of mine has had it for a long time (as long as I can remember, actually) and it's no problem to him as a bassist (~5-6 years), so I don't think it should be much of a problem as long as there's no pain. Nor does it seem like one of those things where it can get worse from doing it more often.
And as far as any related advice from this thread goes, I doubt any of it would or should override what multiple doctors have told you  .
