Seeing as the beta has been down for awhile, I've been watching some youtube videos and live streams, but I never seem to find any nuke games. I remember David Kim used them during early beta, but after that I've not seen any usage of nukes.

Just wondering why that is? If their is videos out anyone wanna link me?

Also search for TLO vs Nazgul ( I don't know where to find this anymore)

(part 1 out of 4)

TLO's pretty well known for using nukes in his games.

TheLittleOne used a couple nukes against Tester, it didn't amount to much but it was there

They're easier to get in Sc2 than they were in BW but again landing them is a problem and will continue to be one. On top of that they don't do nearly as much damage so even on buildings u need like 2 or 3 to kill shit.

Also david kim used them in show matches but those were showmatches so they're not meant to be taken seriously

It seems to me you need to launch 2 nukes at the same time in order to hit anything that can move.

Actually, there was this one video I saw that demonstrated that if you use a nuke on the corner of a nexus, the red dot will be hidden. Also, if you place a nuke near the top of the mineral, then the mineral's color will blur over the dot (don't know if this still works after the last change to the mineral's appearance). And then, it's near invisible if creep is around those minerals as well.

Unfortunately I can't find the video where this was demonstrated, though I can say from experience that I've completely wiped out entire mineral lines with the Nexus corner trick.

EDIT: FOUND IT!!

You can always count on TheLittleOne for fun tactics. Definitely give that TLO v Nazgul game listed above a look if you haven't seen that game yet. I got 3 people hooked on StarCraft II with one viewing of that video alone

For all you protoss and zergs who want to prevent this, I BELIEVE pressing the insert and delete keys pans your view to each side. So when you are looking for your dot, pan to each side as you look around, increasing your chances of seeing the dot. If you see a red dot for a split second, you'll notice it, but a blob of purple you'll probably miss regardless of how long.

TLO just used nukes in last night vs Tester. The first nuke forces Tester to retreat, and the second almost decimated Tester's army, but he sniped the ghost just in time. You can find the games in the King of the Beta thread.

I use nukes quite a bit. You would have seen plenty galore ages ago except i'm not part of the ruling class elite yet that are invited to invite tourneys regardless of skill.

I use them all the time in TvZ and TvP, seem to work well for locking the Z and/or P out of battles when attacking his expo :D

Hiding the dot doesnt do anything though because I know my reaction to a nuke is:

1) move army
2) check bases for dot
3) if i cant find dot quickly move probes
4) ouch
5) back to mining

nukes can be good for taking out clustered buildings (need 2), breaking a seige line, delaying mining (see tlo v nazgul), good fun when you have already won or in games that dont matter, or just being a total baller

You can actually hit the space bar when you're alerted about a nuclear launch, and it'll center your screen on the dot.

As far as usage goes, as TLO demonstrates, they're very good for denying your opponent entry to an area, and also have a lot of strength when your opponent's army is in a position it can't escape from easily.

Defensive nukes to buy time are the most promising use of the strategy I've seen. They won't kill your buildings and if they don't have detection their either forced to sprint forward into your troops or to withdraw back.

Could be fun to play with. Of course this is worthless if it preents you from reinforcing your army (over production facilities).
