So I have finally decided to lose some weight, or rather, some fat! This blog should have had the name "fatloss blog" since I don't care about my weight that much, but fatloss sounds so... gross
A few month ago I was an average person, not fat but not slim either. However, in March I got my first job and since then I've been sitting behind a computer for 8 hours a day at work and been eating fast food several times a week because of my 30 minute lunch. Sure this will have some effect on the body. In may/june I woke up and noticed a freaking stretchmark near the navel! I knew I've gained some weight but I didn't realise how much, all I knew was that I couldn't wear my old pants comfortably anymore. I had my body fat percantage measured and holy shit, since January I've gone from 24% to 32%!! No wonder my pants doesn't fit!
So now I've to a conclusion, I will start working out again! I got my supplements and new shoes today and tomorrow I will start a 25 day program to get things started and after that I will get on another program (haven't decided yet, gimme suggestions?). This blog will be about my 25 day program and I will be updating at the end of every cycle of my program and every cycle will last for 5 days.
So yeah, wish me good luck TL
Question for you to answer: what keeps up your motivation? For me it's to fit in my favorite pair for jeans again

where do u go to measure body fat percentage? a doctor?
|
for me, it is so that i can play sports competitively and well. during my off season (winter) i sometimes read a boxing manga (hajime no ippo) to pump me up because its awesome like that lol
good luck dude! consistency is king in weight loss... 30 minutes a day for a year is far better than 3 months hard workout and then 3 months rest etc.
Don't make any super big diet changes, and you will have no need to fear a rebound :D

Nice determination there nick, achieving a set goal is great and I guess keeping an updated blog on regular basis about is keeps you going.

Some gyms have calipers to measure your body fat percentage, I guess your doctor will have a pair aswell. There are some calculators online, but those are pretty inaccurate, but can give an estimation.
@ Navi, haha dude, you don't know how much motivation I got from hajime no ippo to work out regulary. It's awesome to say the least.

what kind of fast food is it? is any kind of healthier fast food available?
you'll need a negative balance of energy expenditure and energy consumed (basic concept). Your physical exercise may be just enough to balance that right now, so you won't have weight loss, but fat loss is likely to occur (I could be wrong though).
As your activity intensity increases, so will your energy expenditure, i.e. you'll probably lose weight eventually, even if you don't change your diet.
So don't expect too much in this first program if you can't change your lunch habits. I encourage you to get a dietitian/nutritionist to assess your diet habits and make changes that are unique to your lifestyle (including food preferences).
Do your best!
edit: I used to go to a gym just to see some friends from high school and for aesthetics, but later I was looking more fore the health benefits (like decreasing heartbeat rate) as the results started showing up.

Good luck!
When I was a bit larger, when bending forward, my belly hair got caught in my belt. That's motivation enough for me! Those little things like that keep you honest.

I got a "behind the desk job too"... my old one burned calories for me. Like a free workout. I find it much harder to stay fit at home but I am managing. No doubt I noticed a difference after a few months and took prompt action.
#1 key for me is taking my lunch. Always.

I'm too self conscious to eat too much junk food and I have a fast metabolism.
|
If you can, I don't know if you have family or similar. Put in a 1 hour walk every single day, you'll be amazed how much that will help you out, and it won't really feel like exercising.

Thanks everyone Haha how could I forget about Hajime no Ippo? It's awesome!
I'm at work right now and I will go to the gym after work
@marcoso: my former karate teacher gave me the program I am using now and I will talk to him more about nutrition later today when I meet him at the gym. His girlfriend is a fitness model so they both know a lot about diets, nutritions and stuff
@BPCoffee: yeah I went to a doctor, he's a friend of my parents so that's why I can do measurements for free.
@banana: you're cute

Hey Necosarius,
Let's be friends!!!! I just started my weight loss yesterday - a little more EMO driven, so i choose to start by jogging for 30 minutes, which almost always turns that frown upside down.
Got thirty pounds to lose, want to get from 210 to 180.
I hate fruits and veggies, in the most sense...so the diet part i'm going to struggle with. Today i'm actually going to plan out my work out plan. I like how you have 'phases' in your plan. I am thinkin gabout doing that too.

Nice michiko, good luck Yeah it's a lot easier to plan your week when you've cycles and everything will (hopefully) go smooth... from now on.
I was at the gym today Didn't work out that good but the first two weeks will be the hardest, I know this from experience. It's quite discouraging to be back at the gym and work out with weights I used years ago Feels great afterwards tho!

I'm just wondering if it's a good idea to work out in the beginning or just exercising, such as jogging, playing some kind of sports, if you want to lose a lot of fat quickly? I'm a little bit overweight but not that much and not used to exercising, but I really want to be thin with muscles My biggest fear is a double chin or fat belly, that's my motivation for exercising!

Cardio alone isn't very good for fat loss, you need some muscle building as well (and of course a diet). And jogging is so boring I would play some sports but I live in a very small town and the only sports team around is a football team 87 km from where I'm living And our MMA gym is closed during the summer.
Just a quick update on how I'm doing:
First cycle/week is done! Man the first week sucks, it's such a mind battle. Seeing all those ripped guy doing heavy weights makes me wanna use heavier weigths myself and ends up being to tired to finish my routine. Two of my friends started working out as well! Really great, big motivation HIIT is such a pain, but it feels sooo awesome later!
