![]() The upper ones are not as dangerous (apparently) if impacted forward, the only danger is removing them later can potentially damage the nasal cavity. This unfortunately is all through through word of mouth(har har) so I could have misunderstood and whatnot, don't quote me ^^ Anyone have happy stories about not removing wisdom teeth??

Overall, getting them all removed is probably best in the long run as its 4 less to to worry about regarding future problems caused by decay and old age.

For most people they're growing the wrong way or something. Mine, for instance, were going to push against my teeth and get all of my bottom teeth crooked towards the inside. For my friends, the things were shards of teeth. Mine were complete so the procedure was a lot cheaper. I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled out soon too! But my mom is being cheap and says she'd prefer to only pull the left side only or only bottom 2. Is that ever done or recommended? since I only hear everyone getting all 4 taken out This can work but isn't recommended because sometimes the top teeth sort of rely on the bottom ones to definitely stop growing or something like that. The teeth that look completely fine are "cheap" to remove anyway - would rather have that than to have an inequal face structure going on. Some people may not care but yeah I'm not a big fan of botched jobs. My top teeth were fine and I got them removed for $100 each and the bottom ones were $400 each and the dentist had to go dig for them... They don't put you under around here too apparently - it's kind of uncomfortable. Oh also, tooth powder smells disgusting and I scared a little kid when I walked out with my bloody lower lip and my paralyzed face. Someone said it took 3 hours? For me it took like 1 hour and cost $1000. Also again, they said "there's a small chance I'll hit a nerve and you'll permanently lose all sensation in one side of your face" and I had to sign the paper. Hope you guys feel better. ^^

I need to get all four of mine out, but the right side ones crowned much earlier than the left, so they came out earlier. The one's on the top are quite easy to remove for the dentist. I payed $AU150 for that one and it was out of my mouth literally before I knew what they were doing. Bottom one's are more expensive because they typically go into the bone and have to be drilled out. They are also closer to nerves. Payed $AU350 for the bottom one. I don't have any insurance and all four of mine are going to cost ~$AU1K, so the fact that you're quoted for $US2800 leads me to believe that the US health care system is much more broken than I thought, or you need to find a cheaper dentist. If you haven't had Xrays taken yet, go do that, because they very obviously show if your wisdom teeth are going to be an issue. If you leave them too long, they can fuck up the rest of your teeth, so you'll have to have them removed AND need braces or something, so if it looks like they need to come out, i'd just bite the bullet and get them done. Also, three hours is waaaay too long, wouldn't take more than an hour.

![]() Did you see the Xrays? If your teeth look like they're at 45 degree angles to the rest (like mine did), it's probably going to need to happen. But look on the bright side, it's an excuse to eat nothing but ice cream for a week! Edit: On the side of caution, my sister didn't get hers out early (she got them out at ~29) and they messed with the rest of her teeth, which was fixable, but braces aren't fun.

Only 4% of the population actually NEEDS their wisdom teeth out. Every oral surgeon tells the patient that "Your wisdom teeth could impact your other teeth and cause serious damage". Basically it is a whole crapload of preventative medicine (err..dentistry). Look up some graphs/statistics regarding wisdom tooth removal, its shocking how few of us actually need it. Its the dumbest thing ever, its going to be like correctional glasses/lenses soon, everyone is going to need it. Its basically yet another money sink for all of us that will bolster the pockets of oral surgeons and the like.

They took all 4 out and I was none the wiser. Your face is pretty swollen though and stopping the initial bleeding is kinda annoying. For myself I was also unable to feel my chin area for a good half a day. I would also suggest not messing around too much with the gauze they give you. I did and it lasted longer than it should've. After the operation they give you antibiotics and painkillers. I forgot what antibiotic I got but I also got giant sized ibuprofen and a prescription for vicodin if it got too much. DON'T TAKE BOTH AT ONCE! It made me want to throw up for a good hour. Then for the next 3-5 days sleep, take pills, drink stuff/apple sauce. No straws though you can burst the stitches. If you stay thorough on the antibiotic regimen you should come out with few complications. I got unlucky and they bottom set didn't heal properly so they had to make another incision to give me more antibiotics. Doing this honesty sucked hardcore so do everything you're told to the line. Everything about signing a contract knowing the complications is true. Hitting a nerve, top set being close to nasal cavaties so just make sure they guy is good. In all down time is probably around 2 weeks tops. No sc for a good week though : T you won't be up to it even if you want to haha. GL! PM me if you have more questions

(I'll assume they have that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" logic) As far as fucking up your other teeth I'm sure it depends on how bad they are out of alignment. I've had braces and now sport nice straight teeth that I don't want to fuck up. Dentist told me to get my wisdom teeth removed 6 years ago (one is impacted), I never did, they grew in, my teeth are the same. Keep in mind I have never felt discomfort from my wisdom teeth, I am no dentist and everyone's genetics and jaw bones are different so do your research and weigh what's at risk. If you feel intense pain then by all means get them removed, it might lead to more serious problems later, especially when the roots continue growing and essentially merge with your jaw bone. Wisdom teeth extraction is a pretty minimal surgery with no real detriments even if you don't need it. (Which I'd be pretty convinced this is the main reason they suggest it for almost everyone) I still have all 4 of mine, with no real intention of removing them at this point. If they randomly started bothering me one day I would reassess my decision and seek removal, but for now they are just teeth, alas with a bit of evolutionary unnecessity. ![]()

I would assume that would give you quite a bit of room, have they sprouted yet and do you know the angles? It would be very interesting to know if it was possible for them to be impacted. edit: Oh ya, I remember during the procedure, I got so nauseated at one point that I just put the suction down and got out of the room. I felt like I was going to throw up. It was stuffy in there and I had been standing there for over 40 minutes staring into this person's mouth sucking up all the blood and spit. It was intense.

![]() ![]() You guys got cool drugs after you got them out? I was told, "Buy some ibuprofen, you'll be right". It was really quite painful for a few hours after the anesthetic wore off but it's now a pretty gentle throb. The main part that's affecting me is my jaw feels bruised to hell, and I frankly don't feel like doing anything that doesn't involve sitting.

From what I'm aware, the operation can be done with local anesthesia where your doc will make the jaw/face numb while remaining conscience to a certain extent. I think that would save you about 200-400 dollars if I recall correctly. I watched your stream one time, cool stuff man. And gl with the teeth.

I wonder how serious is all this fuss and how much of it just to generate customers for the dentists? (in Croatia, insurance covers the dentist costs so you don't have to pay)

Even a checkup isn't cheap without insurance because he needs to maintain the facility and equipment, pay tons of insurance, etc. Obviously he is going to charge more for longer/tougher procedures. Also, dentists/surgeons aren't performing operations continuously while they are at work and it makes sense for them to get paid well for the time they are actively doing this... it is really intense. I wouldn't want someone removing my teeth who wasn't getting paid well to do a good job :3

I got it done, all 4 at the same time, wasn't that bad tbh. It doesn't really hurt with pain killers but putting ice on every 20 mins is kind of annoying. EDIT: oh btw I didn't bleed at all after surgery, so you might not bleed which is good.

My oral surgeon gave me some pills to take before coming to the operation, which was to help calm me down during the operation. After that, I just went home, the medication started to kick in, and slept for about 2-3 hours. There is a lot of blood, but my surgeon gave me a bag full of items such as gauze, vicodin, etc. I guess I got off lucky compared to other stories my friends told me.
