This community has taught me to play starcraft 2 and love it, I went from Copper to Diamond from patch 6 to the end of beta. (High diamond too might I add.) I am using this tool as a way to pay back the community the best I can by helping people with the problems. My expertise is computer hardware, upgrading and fixing problems that the average computer tech would just tell you to buy a new product. I don't believe that buying a new product is always the most efficient way to solve many problems, and considering there are many young people here, it's not always an option for them to just open their wallets and have 300 dollars appear out of thin air. The writers here apparently approve, please don't come in the thread to troll. Praise on the other hand, how can you go wrong with that? Also if anyone has any suggestions or they want a write up on any particular angle of computer hardware that they are curious or confused about, please post so. I am off this weekend and will be attempting to add 3-4 spoiler/articles to the main section of this page, on top of whatever anyone particularly needs. My goal for this thread is to make it a solid compendium that is updated regularly with pertinent information and not a post that will be lost in time and considered obsolete within a few months. How many times have people looked up answers, and found it for some archaic technology? Yuck!

i figure its probably some kind of conflict or something between the two harddrives. i'm going to plug the other harddrive into another computer later, and i'm expecting it to work, so i guess the problem is resolved. thanks for your help. n_n

I didn't think of it originally because you said that they were both acknowledged at the same time before. Please follow this guide to assign the drive a different letter, and let me know your results. Guide to change the Letter of harddrive to prevent conflicts WINXP Vista 7 If this doesn't solve the issue, and they have both been recognized by the computer seperately at other times, than that leads me to consider the possibility of a power problem, but we will cross that bridge if we get to it.

SPECS: AMD 6000+ (-_-) ASUS M2N4-SLI CORSAIR XMS2 6400 4GB (2x2gb) eVGA GTX 280 SC Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black OCZ GameXStream 700W Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Since starcraft 2 beta started, I have been getting some weird performance from my 280. Note: I have tested system in other applications, it seems to only be happening on SC2 while beta was up. I have not since tested since I reformatted my computer because beta went down however. For instance, my everest which is displaying my temps sometimes goes to 0C, then something absurd like 130C, then randomly will show what it normally runs at ~70C. This only happens in SC2, so I figured eh, it's beta that's probably it. However, I am getting some crashes aswell. Sometimes my computer will lock up, then auto restart but fail to boot. Sometimes I get passed the mobo logo, sometimes I don't. The screen is black, and my monitor light flashes, similar to my monitor on power saver mode. To fix I have to shut down manually and reboot. Another thing that happens is my computer will get minimized and it will lock itself at some absurd mhz on core/mem, such as 60mhz/40mhz. One time my screen actually turned half black half white and I got spooked so I turned off my computer. I really have no idea why the computer gods have cursed me with such bad luck, but I always have insane amounts of problems with my rig. Any suggestions?

When it's doing that pattern with the modem, what you need to do is the following: 1) When you turn off the modem, leave it for more than just 10 seconds, 10 seconds of data transfer will likely still hook you to the same IP and data gateway that you had before. I suggest Unplugging it, go get something to eat during lunch or whatnot, and replugging it when you get back. That will clear the cache in the modem and from the connection. I would unplug the router too while you're at it, and see what happens next. 2) If the problem persists, you should call the ISP and ask them to check your line. There's no shame in calling your ISP when you are paying for a service they are not properly providing. 3) You stated that the problem persisted past you removing the router from the equation completely, this further leads me to believe you are experiencing a problem that SHOULD be resolved directly by your ISP. There's no reason to be ashamed to call your ISP, as I said. It's their job to make sure the service they are providing is working properly, but I do understand your thoughts and concerns regarding the matter. After contacting them, please let me know the result and what they had to say. If they do a quick reboot and it appears to be working, ask to have a field technician sent to your house anyway. They will likely claim that if there is no problem you will be charged. If they stand firm on this, when the field technician arrives, tell him your problem, and that you would like to receive a new cable modem. He has an easy job task that burns time on his workday. You can ultimately eliminate the cable modem from the possibility of problems. It's free..... depending on your ISP (Check first.. I don't want to receive a PM of a photobucket of a bill that is asking for my address. ![]() Good luck. Edit: For future reference, unless you are experiencing other problems, your ISP connectivity and an installation of RAM is a very long shot of a linking issue. I always appreciate people linking ALL the changes that are made, of course. But be mindful, if it was a RAM issue, you would see a much more precise and complex error in your computer than your ISP dropping. Another bit of knowledge: When you change from using a router, to not using a router, it is proper to restart the cable modem itself when you change mediums of connectivity, or else your results will become erroneous. Hey thanks I just came back from my drill weekend and I haven't seen it happen yet so if it happens ill give it a try!

This problem has been going on for awhile now, but I just haven't been around to post so here we go. With the strange fluctuations regarding temperature, is this only during gameplay? Is it only SC2? When is this happening? Also, with the strange freezes, for exactly how long has that been going on? Hardware changes made between them happening or not happening? Only since playing sc2? These sorts of issues are very change sensitive, the more accurate the data you can provide when this sort of stuff happens, the better. I would say it's not your power supply in the case of lack of power, but if there is an issue that was from sort of variable change you never know. I know you spoke of the 280 problems happening only with SC2. I would suggest testing the video card on a more 'stable' application. (I believe sc2 is pretty stable, but until the game is gold and released and Blizzard releases a stability report regarding the product, it's not fair to claim hardware doesn't work because it does not function properly on a beta.) Let me know if you have additional data. Thanks.

Okay great, keep in mind many ISP's run testing and foundation upgrades as well as firmware upgrades throughout the week. Another reason to call your ISP and ask about it, buddy. Good luck.

I did a memtest just for precautionary reasons last night and no errors, but I also did a Intel Burn Test and my computer BSOD.

If I had to guess it sounds like an issue with the video card communication with SC2. Can you run the free 3d Bench repeatedly and see if the crash mimics? That's all I got for the moment.

Yesterday when I was just listening to music my computer crashed. A high-pitched noise emitted from my headphones continuously and my computer froze. I turn the computer off with the on/off switch from the power supply and just let it sit there for some hours while I read a book. Now when I try to boot up my computer will repeatedly restart by itself during the windows loading screen (black background, windows logo in middle and a progress bar underneath it). For a moment I can see a blue screen with white letters, but it doesn't stay for long as my computer just restarts (lasts about .1-3 seconds). I tried to boot in safe mode and it indicated that I have XP with service pack 2, but I have no idea why it would boot in safe mode and what I do in it. Please help :x I have never had a crash that didn't fix on it's own (lol). Any help is appreciated. Afaik my hard drive is fat32.
