The "LOG IN or REGISTER" box is the only thing that seems weird to me - both the fact that it's huge and that it switches flush left/center/flush right. It's position vertically also seems off - it doesn't line up with anything in particular.
I like the space at the top and it might be better if the featured replays box was moved to the bottom of the page to open up the top even more... then maybe reduce the login box in size and put it in the upper-right corner or align it with the page title. Unless the replays are the most important thing, it seems weird to have them smack at the top of the page, anyway.

Yea, that bothered me also. I think what's mainly wrong with it is there's so much unused space on the box. The person who hired me said they just wanted a simple clan site, with emphasis on the basic necessities: news, forums, and replays. The news is already prominent, and the forums, too; so it only made sense to give the replays in a spot it would be noticeable in (heck, replays are a key part of SC). Really, what more does a clan site need anyways?

I really dislike that so much of the top is used for bg image only. If it was mine i'd make the featured replay box as small as the other ones and then move the headline+news boxes all the way to the top.
Also compact the deadspace a little in general. Pretty much what some other people have said I guess.

I just read your resume. No formal education. By this do you mean you have never attended K-12 which I believe is mandatory or are you referring purely to higher education?

I like the color scheme a lot. I actually prefer the darker one. I'm not so sure yet about the Login Button and the Featured replay box and that top left area in general.
Liking it so far though.

I wanted to keep the design as minimalistic and spacious as possible; plus, most gamers nowadays have large screen resolutions so the space helps lighten the load on the eyes.

Haha, yeah.. that resume is.. sparse. Anyhow, there will be an actual resume page there probably, instead of a formal resume with all my information.

Resumes are supposed to only give information that is relevant to the job title you're seeking or field you're working in. It's common sense to not include high school (and below) as credentials for a job, especially for a programming one. o_o

Maybe its just me but the font used for the site makes it meh since the clan is called Quantum it made it sound more intense and liquidy :o but that's just me! Also did thjey want the site to say "a starcraft ii clan" ?

Just one thing, after a quick look.
The featured replays box could be auto-sized. I can see lots of death space if all the replay name are small.

I voted thumbs up, mainly because I couldn't come up with something as good (I am terribad at graphics design). But I would like to add that the marine pictures are sooo common that it looks old.

So basicly what you did was find a nice starcraft related picture, add boxes and writing on it.
edit: it's kinda dark. not a really pleasure to view.

Your design should not have to look like every single other competitive gaming team's website. Have a look at cssmania.com for inspiration. Also, since CSS3 is now available, take advantage of it!

Good stuff, looks pretty nice. How long did it take? I guess that's the best way to judge it, if it was a 2 year project obviously I would expect better but if it was a couple days/weeks then I would say it is good.

I don't know what the guys hating want from a website, it looks great to me. If i paid for a website it's what i would expect.

Sorry for going off topic but some potentially important things:
First of all, the sparseness of the resume is only one of several things that you would want to work on if you were to use that resume to apply for jobs (which you may already know). Second, not putting high school on your resume is probably a mistake... I don't think that it's common sense to leave it off. If you have a college education, you should put that on also. Even if the job doesn't specifically relate to or require it, you definitely want to provide evidence of all education you have received. You do not want the person thinking about hiring you wondering if you ever graduated from high school or not...
Sometimes people leave the year off of their high school / college graduation if they are above a certain age to avoid age discrimination but that's a separate issue.

first the colors are great, but I feel like you are not justifying the text by just placing them in a manner which I thought was not thought out. I say this because they look like they are just floating.
Quantum gaming when it is flushed left like that imo does not suit the typeface. It is far too tall.
one thing I want to mention is the "div" boxes on the right (where forum etc are located).
This strike through does not allow readability and if it is a stylish perspective, needs to be done in a way where the eye does not stray from it. text is best read if the 'top' half is clearer than the bottom half as all type letters are distinguishable from the top.
everything else I think looks great, color scheme and all. although some parts of lorem ipsum hurt my eyes, but that is largely a huge issue.

I'd use a different font for the clan name and add a little logo, other than that I really like the simple look of it, there's no information cluster fuck like on many other websites.
edit: as for shadows, I don't think they fit that well, try a 1px, 1px shadow instead

I can see where you're coming from. I was just always told, that when making a resume, it was unnecessary to include high school since it isn't a learning institution that allows a student to specialize in a desired field. If I did have college education in the field it wouldn't make sense to show high school information, since well.. 99% of the colleges don't let you in without a high school diploma. You're still right though.

I like the floating-ness(!?) because it makes it pop. If you look at the first screenshot it looks way too flat. Normally I'm all for flat designs, but the background already has a popping feel so I felt it was only suitable to follow through with it.
I'm surprised no one realized this: the font for all the captions/title is the same font used on the StarCraft II website (which is why I went with it).

Working on a logo. I got some ideas in my head already. Will try that shadow alternative in a second, thanks.

I agree with everyone who says its blog like. maybe remove the brown color thing (whats it called?) and create something unique? TL is unique imo. Also, Logo and a better headline font.

It looks like a blog because it's the news page showing. Pretty sure once you see different content, clan roster, etc. it won't look like a blog.
Maybe change the navigation to be more outstanding, if you have only a few buttons (like you seem to do) a vertical menu beneath the logo works quite well (see TL)

Are you sure you want a 420px banner/image above the content? Even 200px is a lot if you have no navigation on top.

I thought about that, too (a horizontal menu), but the dilemma there is that there really is only 3 main parts of the site: news (home page, archive, and individual post page), forums, and replays. I don't think that's enough items to justify putting a menu under the header and pushing everything down more (and if I push things up it'll just look cluttered).
Anyhow, I toned down the drop shadows..

The text should be aligned to the headers imo, the half outside gets a thumbs down from me. That's the only thing i can nitpick though - really nice job!

Now the only thing that needs improvement is the clan name text, if you manage to make it stand out yet be decent it's a very nice concept. Use a different font for that one, notice how a lot of company logos are text that has been adjusted slightly?
For example, Microsoft has that little cut out-o and s brought close together:

bigfile has those green dots and the "squarish" ending curves going
It makes your logo more distinguishable! (You can turn font into selection paths and adjust those in case you don't know how to make these things)
Edit: Oh and how do you plan to integrate this into your browser? Because the marine picture at the top right will look cut out if you just insert it into a black background. Unless you want to map your site to the right top corner of the browser you should enlarge the picture add some fade out to black.

I think you've got a pretty good website going on. The background image is pretty nice, so are your colors. Seems fairly StarCraft.
However, it seems like a lot of the content isn't very organized or hierarchical. It's difficult to immediately (and I mean instantly – there is no leisure on the web) tell what is most important, what is second most important, etc. Everything looks a bit too similar (and not in the intentional, consistent design way). Moving your boxes around and working them into a strict grid system might help with the hierarchy, as might more interesting typographic choices. A custom logotype, like fanta suggested, is pretty much always a good decision. Also, never use Arial for anything but body text (and even then, only on the web)!
Good start, keep at it.

it looks like a good site for a bad clan. i'm serious. something like a "fight us!" and "join us" button would be totally appropriately looking. lol. CS clans always had that.

I'm not a fan of the layout, seems very arbitrary and not lined up well. seems not geometrically well designed, and the news box seems too far down on the page, why is there such a large space with nothing up at the top.
