For those that have never watched Halo 3 teams compete before, I can't recommend it enough. This event looks like there'll be streams for Halo 3, Tekken 6, and WoW Arena again. I don't know if Super Smash Bros Brawl will be streamed or just a blog update if they got permission from Nintendo, as they didn't for the last event.
Right now are just some basic tournament matches going on but the kickoff show begins at 8:00pm EST I believe. Hopefully this event goes a little bit better than the last one as I felt the finale was lacking.
Game on.

Definitely gonna check this out. I've played enough Halo 3 and WoW Arena to know what's going on with a little help from a commentator. Should be awesome

Lol why do they include the teams voice recordings in the live stream? Its just a bunch of blabber and you can't hear what they say anyway

It's actually really easy to understand once you kinda' know what to listen for. It seems like random babble, but once you know what they're talking about the important stuff stands out. Most of it is just them calling out shots, which means calling the position of weak opponents so teamates can help shoot them from afar.
And Nony, the Halo 3 commentary is usually really good once they take the mic. The WoW arena, even though I play, is so hard to commentate that it's just delayed play by play usually. It can be fun to watch but it's so much of the same composition that it can lose its luster after the 5th RMP vs RMP or something. I don't even know what the teams are for this event though, so hopefully some diversity.

Yeah, hearing the teams is kind of ridiculous. But then again, I don't play enough to really know what they are all saying anyway. Maybe more experienced players would.

Yeah but its like 5 guys talking at the same time, is what I mean. Quite annoying
I know theyre calling out positions and stuff but that doesnt make it any less distracting for a spectator.
Having an actual commentator would be nice.

Watching, thanks for the update. I remember when some one blogged bout MLG Orlando, it was real fun.

I can't get the stream to work, it plays for 3-5seconds then stops for 1min and repeat. Anyone else having issues?
RMP is so last season, everyone runs RLS now, but fuck them I want Hoodrch to win it with WLD.

Can someone explain the format of each match? When I started watching it looked like a Slayer match, but then the next one was CTF. Never watched competitive FPS before so I'm a little confused.

In the Brackets before the finals it's all best of 5. I can't say the exact map pool order, but they'll change types between CTF, Team Slayer, Oddball, and King of the Hill for formats.

sick! i actually had good timing on one of these things and started the stream right at 8pm lol

How come firefox crashes when I try to load the stream (or even visit the MLG homepage) whilst IE doesn't?

Might be a problem with your octoshape player or something. If people have a lot of problems people usually do a re-stream of the event on justintv. I'd assume others also do it on ustream and livestream.

Thought so as well - but other streams which requires the octoshape player works fine in both... /shrug IE works so here comes the popcorn.

Hard to believe teams of amateurs are what keep MLG funded, $240 per team for a chance to get in the top 8 out of 208 amateur teams + 15 pro teams? Pretty sick if I'm understanding this right.

Maybe more experienced players would. It's by popular demand, really. I find most experienced H3 players actually prefer to hear the team chatter over the commentators. I could see why someone who doesn't know much about competitive H3 would rather listen to the commentary though.

Never watched competitive FPS before so I'm a little confused. Every other match is slayer. The gametypes are semi-randomly determined and announced for each stage of the brackets a few weeks before the tournament. There's one tweak on standard double elimination in which if you meet a team you defeated in the upper bracket again in a lower bracket, the set starts off with the score of the previous set. So, defeating a team 3-0 then facing them again in the lower bracket puts you at an advantage.

Looks like the actual matches are starting again in just a couple minutes.
