The rain started as a light drizzle falling unexpectedly from the dark night sky. The two of us weren't far from home so it was a minor annoyance at first; but as it picked up and the sound of the rain hitting the pavement rose in intensity our hands sought a tighter hold and we picked up our pace to a run. I couldn't help but smile slightly as we were running hand in hand across the side streets on our way home. It didn't take long to completely soak us to the bone but my smile persisted you were here with me and it really didn't matter much to me. It was thrilling running as the rain splashed across our faces, the big drops running down our cheeks making it looks like we were crying.
As we dashed down one more street and then up a sidewalk that familiar feeling of comfort returned unique to one who is returning home. We stayed close huddling under the overhang of the door; my arm had to shift up to grasp you close around your shoulders. The smile at this point had become infectious; I could see it starting to spread to your face even though you were clearly annoyed by the sudden downpour. If anything this only made me smile even more and I found it hard not to laugh as I fumbled for my keys and unlocked the door. Finally that being done we ducked inside and up the steps kicking off our shoes, I couldn't help it I had to hug you. Even though the rain was so cold and I could feel myself about to shiver, a deep warmth stole through me as I wrapped my arms around you. Everything was fine you were here with me nothing else mattered...
And then slowly I woke up, everything was dark around me and painfully the bed was empty, so very empty. It all seemed so real and as the images slowly faded I rolled over causing the warmth steal out of my body as that sudden ugly feeling of loneliness filled me. By now I couldn't even remember a face, only the ghost of that moment remained. It wasn't perfect but it was close and it was such a simple moment that it seemed so very real. Feeling more alone than I can ever remember I curled the blankets up around me and forced myself to go back to sleep. The last thing I remember hearing was the noise of rain hitting the window, and I hoped that maybe I could fall back into the same dream.

True story, happened a few nights ago and I had to record it somehow, being too inept to come close to being able to record my emotions via visual imagery I fell back to words. This isn't the best but it feels good to write it down and put it -somewhere-. Flame away if you wish.
