Embedding video into PowerPoint

I know how to embed a video, but I don't know how to make it so that it works on any computer that can run presentations!

Usually the video behaves as a picture and it won't play.

I tried embedding different formats, AVI, MPEG-I, MPEG-II because I thought it might be the problem, but I still haven't managed to do it properly - it never works on other people's computers.

I read it has to do with different codecs but I'm interested to know - ISN'T THERE A STANDARD WAY TO DO THIS, WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK ABOUT SHIT LIKE CODECS?

It's kind of important, I'll appreciate any help,

convert to gif maybe? quality will be bad though

Well... as far as I know... embedding in Powerpoint works on the basis that the computer playing the power point has access to the video. So if you just copy the powerpoint file and try to play it without the video in the same directory it won't work. At least, this is how old versions used to work.

This crossed my mind too, but I noticed that the .ppt file is a few MB big when it only has like 17 slides. I think the video is embedded in it.

I should try to put it in the same folder, just in case.
