You can probably see where I’m going with this.
If you’d like to play my rendition of Special Forces (titled “Extra Special Forces”) and see how it works, here it is:

This map is for three players. It’s similar to the original in that you fight hundreds (actually thousands) of Zerg units, with the big difference being you get a hero unit with “special abilities.” You mine vespene and when you have enough to activate the unit’s ability, you simply select a (most likely hot-keyed) civilian and right click anywhere. When he moves, your hero will perform a hopefully impressive and fun attack.

You get points for killing enemies, and you trade those points for minerals which you can spend on units/upgrades. All Terran ground units are available, as well as Protoss gateway units.
The enemy has a number of cerebrates that create waves of units to kill. Enemy forces will also periodically attack your base. When you destroy a cerebrate, enemy reinforcements in that area cease, and a checkpoint beacon is created in its place. This allows you to warp to and from your base (where you can heal) and the checkpoint. The game ends when you destroy the Overmind.
There are two difficulties: normal is for the most part self-explanatory (and definitely possible to beat with two players), while hard is much more difficult and pretty much requires three players.

Marine: scatters 15 wraiths in random directions that explode quickly, killing anything the wraiths are touching
Firebat: summons a battlecruiser that heads towards a near enemy, taking everything out in a large radius when it explodes
Vulture: lays a special mine that draws enemies close to it before exploding, taking them all out
Infested Kerrigan: creates a controllable scourge, and after a few seconds, a trail of blood mimicking the scourge’s movements takes out anything it touches
Infested Duran: renders all enemies in a large radius unable to attack for 10 seconds
Defiler: Mind-controls all enemies in a large radius for 10 seconds--enemies can be upgraded to make them strong fighters, or just consumed
Dragoon: creates a controllable science vessel “bomb” that explodes after 5 seconds, taking out all enemies in a large radius
Tassadar: summons a squad of reavers around Tassadar that fire one volley before disappearing

Thanks for taking a look! (Oh, and if someone does donate me a Beta Key, I promise to dedicate my first melee map to them, and write a shoddy haiku of their generous virtue in the map description.)
