Recently, I've been pondering the three races of Starcraft in terms of the competitive game. Too often do I hear that Protoss is considered the "easy race" of the game. Do players generally have less respect for professional Protoss players in comparison to Terran and Zerg players? Is Protoss really an easy race all-together? Or is it just easier in lower-level play?
I have heard before that Terran and Zerg are the races of potential. I also hear that Terran is the strongest race, as well as the most difficult to play.
I'm a Terran and Protoss player, my main having been Terran for a long time. I've decided to pick up Protoss a bit, mainly because I was tired of the linear nature of Terran gameplay (at least in most games). I didn't like my options, particularly against Protoss. Mass tank/vult every single game gets repetitive after a while. Not to mention TvT is stale in low level play, and because so many people have an aversion to it, you hardly get to practice it.
I also decided to pick up Protoss because PvP is the most interesting mirror MU in my opinion. It's fast paced, with lots of spells and harass going on throughout the game.
But I digress. Is Protoss really an easy race? I'm also curious as to the position of Protoss in SC2. Still the "noob race?" I'd like to think the races became equal in nature in higher level play, and that winners are truly decided by the player who operates them. If anyone would be willing to help me figure this out, I'd be filled with glee.

At a higher level, the races fluctuate in their power so much that you can't have a "best race". Right now, I think that zerg is the strongest race (mainly because they're owning protoss in the metagame right now) although I can see terran rising in the near future due to the likes of Flash and Fantasy.
Protoss is considered the easy race at lower levels because it truly is the easiest race for new players; macro is easier, micro is easier and strategy is easer (except for PvZ). This is due to the fact that Zerg and Terran require lots of APM and game sense to be played effectively. Once you get to the C and B ranks, the races all start to even out.

Just from the discussions I've seen, this is kind of how I started to imagine how SC would play out:
Protoss: Easy at first, getting more difficult as you get to higher play Terran: Difficult at first, getting easier as you get to higher play Zerg: Somewhere in the middle; fluctuates slightly along the way
But I think that's only smaller competitive play, like iCCup stuff. In the end, I do believe all the races even themselves out.
I guess my main issue is that people bash on Protoss for being the easiest in all levels of play, and then for some reason believe they have done something great when they defeat a Toss player as Terran or Zerg. Like "Fuck yeah, I just beat the imba race with my harder race and I am therefore more awesome and manly." Really now? Hahaha. Okay.
But yeah, I mean, I don't really care all that much. I play Toss sometimes because it's freakin fun. But other than that, I do like to ponder on these topics. Does anyone have any input on the opinions of people regarding SC2?

in SC2 protoss is not the easy race(terran is) but people still call it the easy race(terran players) because of sc1.

I think Protoss is the easiest race for beginners, this is because they can produce tough units on the start of the game, and pump them quite easily. At low level play, Protoss can beat other races with zealots and dragoons, while Terran would be pumping Marines, and the Zerg, Zerglings. This is until the Zerg and Terran find out the right unit composition.
Once each race has their set Build order, and they know the right unit composition it balances out. Some races requite more army managment such as Terran, especially when playing against Protoss. But, once you get the hang of your race and play it enough, you get used to the push and it becomes natural. Starcraft is considered the most balances rts game, so one can't say that one race is better than another, but at low level play Protoss dominates. I'm quite low level on iCCup (D+/C-) and I find it quite difficult to beat Z&T. Major issue against Zerg is their quick tech-switches, and with Terran their timing pushes. Even at D+/C- I find the game very balanced. I am a Protoss player, and I personally find it annoying when people complain that protoss is the easiest race, I find it very difficult going up against a Zerg army, especially when they get a good flank on you, storms aren't as good. I dislike the Terran army too, it's very powerful, and if you attack at the wrong time, from the the wrong angle, say goodbye to your army and gg. But this is just my opinion.

I dont think anybody is going to deny that protoss is the easy race at the lower levels (Like D through maybe C-). At the highest level, as was already mentioned a couple of times, it fluctuates like mad so its really hard to say any race is better than another. So much is decided on maps.
That being said, I've always thought that if a terran, a zerg, and a protoss all played a completely perfect game, Terran would win vs either of them.

And then Terran QQs about 1a2a3a haha. But the truth of the matter is that 1a2a3a can't win a game (at least not higher than D+). We all have problems with other races in early play, until we learn how to play right. Then it's about skill and strategy. And I think that's when it gets more fun too.

u are 100% right, now in days Terran and Zerg get much more easy to Blue Ranks but Protoss are Weak at B- on

Terran players get the most powerful armies (that's kind of the point of Terran) which would make me think Terran should be the easiest race for weak players, when strategy is at the 'mass up a big army and kill the other guy' level. I expect the reason this doesn't happen is low level Terran players mimic the professional unit compositions, but don't know how to use them and get raped. For example, M&M with little-to-no mech support is terrible against lurkers if you're too incompetent to split... and vulture/tank is pointless if you only plant half your mines, place them on your own tanks, throw away your vultures wandering aimlessly, and then shove your tanks into the opponent's army before you siege them. ("Zealots are so imba when I let them drag my own mines into my bunched-up siege tanks!")
I imagine low level Terran players would have a much easier time with mech against Zerg and M&M + Tank against Protoss.

Protoss would be more successful if it wasn't for PvZ, the matchup that holds them back alot.

That is one of the reasons I also enjoy Protoss, because PvZ seems like such a challenge. Fighting a Zerg goes completely against the natural, comfort-zone mindset of Protoss units and you seem to have to implicate a lot more harassment and map control techniques, as well as work toward always using the units you have in an efficient manner as to not get overrun by the Zerg units.

the most interesting MUs to play are TvT, PvP and ZvZ...that's it. Starcraft shouldve been just mirrors

How do you make a story-line around purely mirror matches? haha

I imagine low level Terran players would have a much easier time with mech against Zerg and M&M + Tank against Protoss. I'd have to disagree with this. At lower levels, it isn't exactly "mass up and get a bigger army and roll," but more of a battle of mechanics (macro ofc is important but unit control is also needed).
The reason Protoss is seen as an easier race is because generally their individual units take up more supply than Terran units (except for tanks ofc) therefore they are both easier to macro up an army and able to group all their units in less hotkeys. In addition, Protoss army control is much less demanding than Terran. When you think about it, a Protoss army can mostly be a-moved (storms and stasis are few exceptions). On the other hand, every single Terran unit with the exception of Valkyries and Goliaths have at least 1 special function (Marines stim; Tanks siege; Vultures mine; etc). This fact alone makes Terran much more mechanically demanding which is what low level players need to mainly focus on.
I agree with you though that Terran armies are the most powerful. It is just so difficult to utilize that power at lower levels.

Severedevil just has a love of bizarre strategies. He'll make up a million reasons for players to use them

Possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

yes, kind of true man, its imposible to beat some Good Zerg on maps like Desti, Heart, FS
Terran and Zerg on those map or maybe all maps they can just Camp and Turtle and Still Win the GAME even doing Nothing.

After reading How Do You Sleep?, I totally feel like there should be a lot of achievement in defeating Terran players now. Hoho, the tables have turned!
Loved that post hahaha.
