I was just watching some streams today (abnormal, I'm usually the one streaming), and I was wondering what exactly makes a featured stream? Is it rank/skill level? popularity? a combination of both? I mean it seems pretty obvious that people like Nony, LZ, Day9 etc. are featured, but I'm just curious what determines if someone gets the little star.

High skill from the players with a high rank + a verified stream. The cutoff for the SC1 streams was B-/B. In SC2 I have no idea but I assume its mid tier and above platinum or ex top foreigner.

-shrug-

I just have noticed that I'm not getting quite as many viewers lately and I'm not sure why, I've gotten nothing but good feedback so I want to make sure people are aware of my stream. Maybe its because there are alot more streams now and beta has been out for a while (and I haven't been streaming all day every day like I was for the first week of beta due to other commitments) I definitely don't compare to some of the featured streams though.

Gotta be good. If you ain't good, your stream won't get featured. Well known foreigner got you featured in BW, but I'm not sure how SC2 works. I reckon you're gonna have to be real good in order for your stream to be featured.

Yeah, I wasn't great at brood war, I'm relatively new to the community, I've only been playing SC for about 8-9 months now, stream is verified and I've been top 20 platinum for the entire beta, and put up at least a decent fight against alot of the top players. (I've beaten david kim, louder, lunasky, etc., though admittedly they usually rape my face). I'm just wondering, because maybe some time down the road if I've been with TL.net longer and improve my rank some more I could look at such a thing. If not whatever, I'm not super worried about it .

Yeah, I'm certainly lacking in the e-fame department, but I don't think I'm too bad considering how long I've been playing .

Have we played? I'm down I'm always looking for some good games, so e-fights are ok as long as they are civil lol.

Ok. Are you implying you should be featured? Is that really why you made this blog?

Post count helps too. Though you'd have to understand the complex system in which poster icons are determined. You should look that up.

No, I'm not implying I should be featured at all. It would be nice, but I would certainly be much less deserving than the overwhelming majority of featured streamers. I'm just wondering, as it might be something I become interested in accomplishing at some point down the road.

So if I set up some kind of SAW/that hacker movie where he kills kittens device that say.. dumped a bucket of nasty on my head if I lost 3 in a row or something, and televised it I might get some bonus points?

I think popularity of the stream itself is also of importance. most of the featured streams easily hit over 400 viewers at a time, at least they did a while ago...been playing too much HoN recently xD

Hello protoss player.
I want to play a game. you have always taken your powerful race for granted, whined about zergs flexibility, cried about terrans unstoppable rushes. Today you will experience, truly experience, what despair is. You shall play as terran, against protoss. If you wish to cling to your mentality that protoss is weaker, you...will...die. If you wish to prevail, you must find the key, to your own races undoing. be warned, this protoss has an ELO of over 2300
You will play against smuft
and if you survive, only then will you truly appreciate the power of protoss.
Good luck

if you are not a big name but your stream is entertaining (ie you do good commentary while playing or try out interesting strategies) there's a higher probability of it getting featured. no guarantees though.

Wait who has featured SC2 streams?

- Nony doesn't count, because his stream was featured during BW and he just tagged [SC2] on the front.

- PsyonicReaver (EG House) got featured because they famous, popular, and bound to be gosu, plus they stream all the time

did anyone who was not known before SC2 get featured strictly for being "good" at SC2?
Nony is Bonjwa

I wasn't asking for a featured stream, I was asking what makes one. Just because I am curious about how one gains something desirable doesn't mean I feel entitled to such a thing.

Asking worked for me, but I have e-fame.

Post a bunch of decent advice in the strategy forum for a few years.
Then make some attention whoring blogs to draw attention to the fact that you can win games.
Then cool off for a bit while still continuing to make strat forum posts.
Then ask.

It's all about balancing respect for your skill with publicising your skill.

this. i would like it very much if more ppl would care to commentate on their game. like what they think and what they plan to do next. thats much more educational than just watching their game.

More like top 200 right?... How many divisions are we up to now? I think we've got 17 on europe but from what I've seen the newer divisions still have a low "point" average since most of their players got in the beta later. If someone's been playing the game from beta launch, he's likely in an early league and has high points.

There aren't enough high ranked players streaming out there (or at least, not when I'm looking for a stream), and someone in the top 200 of his server is a "high ranked" player in my book.

I think top 350-400 would be more accurate.
