It's been such a long time since I posted my very first blog entry and a lot of things happened. The idea to take up BW and start playing it more regularly failed for me. I just didn't have the right mindset and abandoned the idea soon enough, but still I want to thank Cascade, who back in the days tried to support my idea.
Currently I am nowhere near playing SC as I was two years ago. I'm playing Unreal Tournament on a competitive level and am aiming for the upcoming Clanbase OpenCup season to compete in.
There is a lot of things I would like to talk about, as I see many similarities in the ways SC and UT are perceived and played nowadays, with the only exception that SC still is in E-Sport. But before I go on too much about my insight some more things that came to happen lately.
Biggest impact: The Pokerstrategy.com TSL!
Man, I missed the beginning and I flipped about it. Though I don't play any SC myself I still am a huge fan of the foreign scenes big tournaments like the EMS and TSL. I always kept an eye on TL.net and tried to see if another TSL would come along. And then came UT again. UT is my obsession like SCBW might be for 99% of you guys. So I started to get back into game, played a lot and prepared for the upcoming season. But it undermined my attention on TL.net. Too bad!
And then I just thought "Let me take a quick look at TL.net and see what's going on in my favorite E-Sport lately". And there it was TSL2. :D Super nice and thanks to the team and community to bring this up. Ever since I discovered TSL2 was running I caught up in VODs. I am still behind but I don't mind as I can watch all those nice games on the website. Good work there and I love it.
What struck me next as SC2 Beta. I missed all dates to get my hands on a key and my chances are slim to get one now (Bnet account beta test signups!), but I'm psyched. I read the news items and watch some stream now and again to keep in check of this new game. It looks amazing and I'm thinking about playing it after the release. It's gonna be so much fun and for me as a total newbe it won't be so acidly hard to play some as I won't be the only one running around without a clue. :D
So what came to mind was, to play some SC1 on ICCup and finally get a grip and some preparation done. But at the same time I need to keep my level in UT as the cups start in a month. So this is some kind of a two edged sword for me. Still there is a good upside to this situation:
- I got a lot more time to spend on playing than two years ago
- UT does not demand constant playing anymore, as I am fairly advanced already
- the UT community is declining so there are less games every day, which leads to two more points:
a) maybe I should consider to finally take up a new game
b) with this small community and less games around it's not hurting to miss out, as there is less and less to miss out on anyways
I just got one final question: Are there still any chances for newbs to pick up the game?
Cheers,
