Hey there!

I've had a few requests to bring back my guide to music, but for a couple of reasons I won't do that at the moment. Instead, I've decided to do a short blog which I will try to post once a day with a few albums that I think are worth a listen. I'll try to cover all the genres that I initially set out to do in my guides to music.

The purpose of the blog is both to generate discussion and to expose people to music they might not have listened to before. So if I mention a group here, give them a try even if they are not in a genre you usually listen to.

1. Black Kids - Partie Traumatic
What? Indie pop/rock
When? 2008
Why? Lots of fun, makes me think of BLOC Party but much more fun and energetic. A bit of an 80s vibe too.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

2. JS Bach - Cello Suite No.1 in G Major (BWW 1007)
What? Classical
When? 1717-1723
Why? One of the nicest cello pieces ever composed. I'm slightly partial to the Pablo Casals recording.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

3. Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
What? Sludge Metal
When? 1996
Why? Good sludge, slow without being boring, Dax Riggs's voice is awesome!
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

4. The Knux - Remind Me in 3 Days
What? Hip hop
When? 2008
Why? Hip hop that's easy to listen to, slightly reminiscent of Outkast.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

5. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
What? Songwriter
When? 2008
Why? Beautiful voice, interesting songs, good guitar accompaniment.
Show me! + Show Spoiler +

That's it for today. Give these artists a listen, let me know what you think, and let me know if there's anything you think I'll enjoy (especially new music, I never manage to properly stay up to date with new music).

Disclaimer: The title says that it is Daigomi's guide to good listening. That means its my opinion. Feel free to disagree as long as you provide reasons; I enjoy a good discussion as much as the next person.

Great stuff man, listened to it all but the metal, that's not my cup of tea.

The Bach was fantastic.

I liked the Acid Bath song and am going to get the album I listened to Bon Iver too but when it comes to singer-songwriters I'm partial to alcohol/cigarette stained voice. The other stuff (except Bach which I probably listened to at some point) I probably wouldn't like so I didn't listen ^^

#3 Is one of the best albums I've ever listened to. So I will definitely check out the rest. Thanks Diagomi, never heard of some of these bands.

edit: Personally I would have recommended When the Kite String Pops, but both are great

Yeah, it is one of the greatest albums of its genre without doubt. Acid Bath is so strange though, I really don't know if I prefer Paegan Terrorism Tactics or When the Kite String Pops. Both albums are very different but very good.

Definitely get it if you can. Also get When the Kite String Pops, it's different but just as good IMO.

The Bach is amazing. In the last three years it's the track I've listened to the most (even though it's not my favourite classical piece) of all my music, simply because it never fails to be good. If you like it you should see if you can get the different recordings of it, they really are very different. The Casals recording was done in in the 1930s I think, and is very differently paced from the Rostropovich one (which was recorded somewhere in the 80s). All Bach's cello suites are worth a listen though, the first is just my favourite!

I haven't heard of them before, but it's interesting so I'll give them a try. Reminds me of chiptune, something like Anamanaguchi, but not quite

I first heard When the Kite String Pops, and greatly preferred it to Paegan Terrorism Tactics for the longest time. These days I'm leaning towards PTT a touch :p

Glad to hear that last time was useful to a few people, especially the hip hop one since people often completely disregard hip hop

Damn, first time I saw that Bon Iver performance
That's pretty amazing, love how much he improvises with his voice and how much more emotion he puts into it compared to the album version.

I like how diverse your taste in music is.
